If Varina Loses...

I don't even see rain anywhere in the forecast till about Sunday. I did see Varina Athletics updated the time on Twitter, I'll be there for sure... you can count on it. I haven't seen either team this season yet so anxious to get a look at both.
Me too Danny. It’s going to be interesting to see how Varina handled that week off. Supposedly had 10+ kids out with Covid. I expect it to be low scoring.

Already talking

Lol, @mike salem. It's just nice to hear that high school football rivalries are still going strong in the Roanoke Valley. It's says a lot about how important the Salem Spartans football history is when fans from other programs desire to have a chance on a Friday night.

A smart man once told me "Don't believe the negative myth about being king of the mountain. If it was a bad place why do so many people want to knock the King off. Never stop working to stay there"! Sparta enjoy the view from the top. It has been well earned.

I am proud to call Salem a special opponent/program. Win, lose or draw renewing our rivalry is going to be a blast.

9/8/2024

Week 2 told us PLENTY about the teams in the 540, probably one of the more consequential weeks in terms of my Top 10 that we have had so yet!
THE TOP TEN

#10 Riverbend Bears (0-1)
Last Week: Loss to Forest Park 27-20
The Bears lost a close game to a stout Forest Park team, room for improvement but still too much talent here to leave them off our Top 10

#9 Massaponax Panthers (1-1)
Last Week: 17-14 Loss to Glen Allen
More points were scored this time around however the results were the same, a tight 17-14 loss for Massaponax against a tough Glen Allen team, they will now prepare for the challenge of stopping Louisa and their returning weapons playing in their second game.

#8 Eastern View Cyclones (1-1)
Last Week: 53-13 loss at Huguenot
After playing a tight first half against a loaded Huguenot team, the Cyclones were crushed in the second half and gave up 41 unanswered points. They will have a bye to lick their wounds, can't forget this team only had 3 days of preparation for one of the better teams in Class 4.

#7 Mountain View Wildcats (1-1)
Last Week: 17-14 Loss at Woodgrove
Mountain View saw turnovers and missed opportunities cost them their 14 game regular season winning streak. They too will have a bye to recover, before they take another road trip... this time to Centreville.

#6 King George Foxes (1-1)
Last Week: 41-33 Win at Hampton
After scoring 36 in their opener and 41 Friday night, I feel it is safe to say explosive football is here to stay in KG, the Foxes had to sweat this one out though, after jumping out to a huge 41-13 lead mid way through the 3rd quarter, the Crabbers sparked a quick and huge comeback and got all the way down to the KG 18 yard line with a shot to tie the game. Now they will face off with #10 Riverbend

#5. Stafford Indians (2-0)
Last Week: 41-6 Win at Chancellor
The Indians are shooting up our rankings in a hurry why? Because they are winning and in dominant fashion, Stafford jumped all over Chancellor and cruised to a 30+ point victory. Now they will host Colgan from Prince William.

#4 Brooke Point Black-Hawks (2-0)
Last Week: 41-20 Win over Spotsylvania
Brooke Point's offense continues to be explosive this time putting up 41 over the Spotsylvania Knights. Dombek is showing his ability to lead his offense as the Black-Hawks get ready for Independence this week.

#3. Kettle Run Cougars (1-0)
Last Week: Bye
Cougars are coming off an early bye and will face an early test against Handley

#2. Courtland Cougars (2-0)
Last Week: 37-20 win over Louisa
Big statement win for the Cougars over an always tough Louisa team that had recently added 2 of the more explosive players in the state.

#1 Colonial Forge (2-0)
Last Week: 35-14 Win against Alexandria City
The Eagles pulled away in the second half against the Titans, however you can't help but feel the Eagles are not satisfied with their first 2 performances, with the expectations they have.

Amherst Co. @ G.W. livestream from CVip Media Solutions

Chuck, you and Jim missed a great meal at our place this week. We even had a big ole cake, just in case we didn’t get our required calories stuffing our faces with BBQ. Wish you two guys could have joined us.

Congrats on the good win. Now go ahead and win the next 8!!!
Oh sure...break out the BBQ the week AFTER us! :)

Good luck to the Generals! We always share ya'lls score during our broadcast if we have it.

If the Springers fall Friday...

2021-22 season HS lost 3 regular season games, Chambers, Martinsburg and Varina. Then won the Region title, then lost to Stone Bridge 28-26 in the Class 5 Semifinal. HS still feels the sting of that loss based on several bad calls by the officials. Stone Bridge advanced to the title game, beating Maury in the state title game.
This year's team reminds me of that years team. They got better and better as the season went on... their is a ton of room for improvement as this year goes forward.
right
if they do lose (which is a possibility) it would just be learning experience for the remainder of the season.
