Skyline 23 Millbrook 14 Final Game Story

Sophomore Zayden Burks ran for 195 yards and threw an 81 yard halfback pass for a touchdown to lead the Hawks to a 23-14 victory over the Millbrook Pioneers at Skyline on Friday night.

Skyline won the toss and elected to receive. After a false start and a short run by DayShawn Haley, Burks took a pitch to the right, but came to a stop and launched a deep pass to Isaiah Maxwell, who had at least 10 yards on his defender. He caught the ball in stride and coasted in for the 81 yard touchdown grab. The extra point kick by Tristan Walker put the Hawks up 7-0 with 10:59 left in the 1st quarter.

On Millbrook's first possession, they picked up several first downs before stalling in the red zone and turning the ball over on downs.

The Hawks used a bunch of clock on their next possession, holding the ball for 18 plays before turning the ball over on downs themselves.

Millbrook moved the ball from their own 19 down to the Skyline 35 before Brandon Baldwin intercepted Cam Clark's pass to turn the ball back over to the Hawks.

The Hawks next possession was all Marques Lockhart as he caught a 48 yard pass(enhanced even further by a Pioneer personal foul) and then ran the ball in from 16 yards out to put Skyline up 13-0 with 6:06 left in the 2nd quarter.

Millbrook started their next possession at the Skyline 45 after a penalty on the kickoff. But their drive stalled as the Hawks defense again forced a turnover on downs.

Burks had a 57 yard run on the ensuing possession, giving the Hawks great field position. But a fumbled snap on 3rd down and no timeouts meant Skyline had to hustle the field goal team out and just got the snap off in time for Walker to convert a 40 yard FG as time expired in the half, with the Hawks up 16-0 going into the locker room.

Millbrook could not pick up a first down on their first drive of the 2nd half, giving the ball back to the Hawks. Skyline took another big chunk of time off the clock with a 13 play drive, ending with a Nate Ballard 26 yard pass to Maxwell to put the Hawks up 23-0 with 2:53 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Pioneers got on the board on a 2 yard run by Ryan Annan, to cut the lead to 23-8 with 10:51 to go in the game.

Skyline did not score on their next possession, but they did have a 15 play drive that ate up a ton of clock before turning the ball back over to the Pioneers on downs.

Millbrook worked the ball down the field, and finally got into the end zone on a 6 yard Annan run. The conversion run failed, as did the onside kick, and Skyline was able to take a knee and run out the rest of the clock.

Other stat leaders included Maxwell with 107 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns.

Skyline improves to 1-2 on the year, and Millbrook falls to 2-2.

Gainesville 41 - Robinson 13

Gainesville used a 20 point second quarter to gain control of the game and cruised to a 41-13 win against Robinson. GV dominated on both sides of the ball and, other than two long scoring plays for ROB, greatly imited the ROB offense.

ROB's first possession was a three and out. GV's first drive reached the ROB 11 yard line but their 4th and three play resulted in a sack and GV turned the ball back over to ROB on the ROB 18 yard line. ROB again went three and out. GV then put together a 65 yard drive capped by Smith 65 yard run to open the scoring at the 1:32 mark of the first quarter, 7-0 GV (Byrd XP). The GV KO then pinned ROB deep at their own nine yard line. After a ROB first down, GV's Shiff sacked ROB's J. Scaperotto for a loss of 18 yards and made ROB punt from their own one yard line to give GV great field position at the ROB 32 yard line. On the second play of this drive GV's Kilmer found Eisenhower in a seam in the middle of the field for a 22 yard TD pass and GV went out in front 13-0 (Byrd XP missed) with 10:36 remaining in the half. ROB started their next possession on their own 21 yard line and moved to their 43 yard line where they had a 4th and one but ROB elected to punt. GV then put together a 69 yard scoring drive and extended the lead to 20-0 (Byrd XP) on a Smith 10 yard run up the middle at the 5:08 mark of the second quarter. The GV KO again pinned ROB deep at their own 8 yard line but on this series J. Scaperotto dropped back to pass and was hit. The ball bounced forward to the ROB 8 yard line where GV's Hyde scooped it up and easily scored. After the Byrd XP it was now 27-0 GV with 4:11 remaining in the half. After another ROB punt and a short GV drive that ran out the clock the half ended.

GV received the ball to start the second half and punted after just one first down to give ROB the ball on their own 23 yard line. On this ROB possession J. Scaperotto found his brother D. Scaperotto behind the defense and they hooked up for a 60 yard TD pass to cut the lead to 27-6 (Jacobs XP) with 7:12 to play in the third quarter. GV's next drive answered immediately when Kilmer found Hill coming across the middle towards the visitor's sideline. Hill broke a tackle near midfield and went 58 yards down the sideline to make the score 34-6 GV (Byrd XP) with 4:12 remaining in the third quarter. ROB started their next possession on their own 22 yard line and after two GV sacks for a total loss of 17 yards ROB ended up punting from their own 17 yard line. The short kick gave GV another short field at the GV 48 yard line, but after losing yardage GV punted. ROB then went three and out, followed by another GV score when Kilmer hit Eisenhower with a 29 yard TD pass to extend the lead to 41-6 (Byrd XP) with 8:05 remaining in the game. The GV KO left ROB to start their next possession on their own 17 yard line but on this drive the Scaperott brothers connected again for a 79 yard TD pass and the lead was now 41-13 (Jacobs XP) with 5:51 remaining in the game. GV then ran out the clock to secure the win.
