Hello all you spring sports fans.

So we are gearing up to hit the pitch sooner than I thought. Here are my preseason thoughts.
West: Galax will remain the number 1. I just can't see another team on paper to take them out. Anyone know what they lost last season? Schedule-wise the best regular season games will be against Giles and Graham. I would be shocked it they lose more than two of those.
2 spot: I will tentatively go George Wythe. They have lived in this slot for a while now. I just don't see Radford putting forth much this year, and Honaker would fall to them as well.

East:
1. Riverheads: You have to put them up there. I mean...have to! I really think it may be another George Mason situation brewing in 1A.
2. Looking for input? Again...I don't get out that way often, but may actually be Nelson Co. way this season, so I could swing out for a good game or two in the east. What do we think.

East
1. Riverheads /Champs until they lose
2. Northhampton State runner up
3.Mathews/Essex/Rappahannock all 3 teams could beat each other on any given day
6.West Point I think they had a down year last year look for them to bounce back
7.Windsor/Northumberland Windsor should come out of their conf as a 2 seed Northumberland has now had Coach Sterling for a year look for them to make some progress
9.Rapp. Co
10.Altivista

Just my opinion

Riverheads won't be as good this year as they were last year, but keep in mind, they were the best boys soccer team that I have seen at the 1A level (which admittedly, has not been long as I just started keeping up with high school soccer about 5 years ago). As good as Kasak was, they weren't just a one man show last year. I still think they have the pieces to make a run at another state championship, but I don't think they will demolish everyone in the postseason like they did last year.

Aside from Galax though, they will handle anyone from the West who makes the final four. So as long as they come in Regional Runner Up, they may be in the (possibly all-east) final.

I know that Galax suffered from some internal strife after football season, and it showed
With some students choosing not to play winter sports. Has Galax solved their off field
Problems ?

I have not heard anything about the soccer team losing players. I know they didn't have anyone on the roster playing basketball. Wrestling is another matter. As for baseball/softball/track. I am unsure.

Riverheads has a transfer from England (I think) this year, and from what I am hearing, he is really, really good. With that being said, I have them as a top 2 team in the state, and a big favorite out of the east. They were state contenders without him IMO, but with him, they are a much bigger favorite.

Now that is some news. Abingdon snagged a European transfer a while back who helped with like 20 assists per season, and Giles had three kids from Ghana or Nigeria (I can't remember) that took them to state. Honestly the players were good not GREAT talents, but the work ethic, knowledge, and experience was far surpassing the local talent at the time.
