ORANGE -- Wilson Memorial held off a late rally by Buffalo Gap Saturday afternoon to beat the Bison 57-51 for the 2A East girls basketball championship at Orange County High School.

After trailing by 13 at halftime, Gap pulled to within three points three different times in the fourth quarter, but each time Wilson responded, first with a 3 by Lexi Deffenbaugh, then with a bucket by Cheridan Hatfield and finally with two free throws by Sam Kershner in the final seconds to secure the win.

Jordan Sondrol finished with 13 points to lead the Hornets, while Hatfield and Deffenbaugh both had 12. Destiny Harper led Gap with 16 points in the loss.

Wilson Memorial now plays Chatham in the 2A state quarterfinals next weekend at James Madison University. Gap will also play at JMU next weekend against Floyd County.
