Chris Cole and Jaelyn Allen have put on maybe the craziest hitting clinic you will ever see in a high school football game. Unreal stuff...

Update: Salem - 46 Brookville - 0 Halftime

I believe Salem has missed five extra points... pretty weird because they have a really good kicker.

Lots to work on going forward for Salem, a whole lot. That said, never seen a Salem team with this many weapons. Absurd collection of talent, even for Salem.

Took a trip to Salem tonight,. Brookville is very young, but still, Salem looks the part.

Cole and Allen are studs on defense!

No big surprise there. Bees have too many youngsters in too many key positions this year. They don't have any linebackers at all on d and it also showed last week when they couldn't stop Buckinghams offense. They will probably finish just above Liberty(who will be dead last) in the Seminole.

Salem up 46 0 at half. Did this with a number of illegal procedures on offense and off sides on defense. Missed numerous extra points. Salem is explosive on offense and defense. No live kicks or punts. Salem will be great at returning both.

I mentioned this to someone yesterday. Salem will almost certainly win the field position battle against literally anyone they play or could potentially play and this makes them far more difficult to beat. Senior PK who routinely puts the ball in the EZ and the best PR in the state meaning you either risk kicking to him and seeing seven points go on the board or you try and get your punter to angle it away which, as we know in high school, rarely is a consistent success unless you have a D1-level punter. Very dangerous combo of field position specialists on one team to go along with everything else, will make things difficult on all opponents this year. Lot of hidden yardage you're going to struggle with when you play Salem.

It was good to see the spread incorporated into the offense, I think they will need the short pass game in the post season, when you have both passing and running it opens it up the offense!! With all those weapons, use them!!

Good morning @Shabutie, @southbottomU, @1MoreHokie and every other Salem fan. I have an honest statement and question for any of the Spartan faithful.

We all know Salem has the talent and coaching to be a major contender. From your comments it appears Salem's defense played the run very well and obviously gave up nothing to a very young Brookville team. With that being said I previously thought the LCA offense would present the Spartans some challenges in their opener, but I am not so sure now. Yes, the Bulldogs have Davidson, Moon and a good online; however, poor depth, sound linebacker play and a potent Salem offense may negate LCA strengths . I see a rout now. What do you guys think?

I know you guys are generally humble and keep things close to the vests. I am genuinely and simply asking for some fun x and o discussion.

I hope Salem beats them soundly and believe they will

Gideon is a DOG, and LCA has great lines on both sides of the ball, but depth wise, they will not be able to hang with Salem. If it is close for 3 quarters, Salem will pull away in the 4th.

LCA hasn’t played Salem before, so they could get blown away if they’re not prepared. Offenses are somewhat similar. I expect Salem to run away from Gideon. I wonder if Gideon will play more in the box.

LCA has some weapons, but I feel like they will have to heavily rely on Gideon in the running and passing game. LCA Is usually sound fundamentally and coached well, so I hope it’s a good game.

I’ll say Salem by 2+ TD’s

Have not seen LCA. Would think it might be hard to move the ball consistently on Salem . The question will be can LCA take big plays away from Salem If so will be close game. Defenses just can't let Salems athletes explode for big plays.

LCA beat Appomattox 36-25 last night in the benefit, according to Maxpreps. Can't really draw many conclusions from that, so early in the season, but it's a bit of information anyway.

When people describe LCA it reminds me of how posters have detailed Salem teams for years. Disciplined, good coaching, sound interior lines and always a monster running back...... I am not denying the Bulldogs talent, I just see this Salem team as being "different" with all of normal qualities mixed in. Yes, @lyhsports, Gideon is a "dawg", but I think Salem's linebackers speed and physicality will reduce/mitigate his effectiveness. LCA will have to force the Spartans linebackers to respect the short pass or it's going to be a long night. I also agree on the depth issues. LCA will be chasing the Salem offense with world class speed for four quarters and it is supposed to be in the upper 90's at game time. I hope it's a good game, but I just don't see Bulldogs keeping it close after halftime. Good luck to both teams.

I agree with everything you said. Gideon is a great football player, and it will show next week, but what I saw out of Salem’s defense last night makes me think it will show on defense.

It's really hard to predict what will happen in the LCA vs Salem game because it's the first game. Off hand I think that Salem is better than they were last year. Is LCA better, worse, the same? My guess is if LCA can not give up explosive runs or pass plays and not let Lewis beat them in the return game, then this will be a close game decided late. LCA will need to make Salem drive the length of the field 4 or 5 yards at a time. In that situation the clock will run and the game will have fewer possessions.

I will not say too much but I will say that I REALLY like this group of players and where this Salem team is at right now. The potential is through the roof but I am most encouraged by how selfless and physical they are. Even the small guys like corners will fly up and hit hard and that goes through the entire two-deep. The receivers give amazing effort blocking for each other and I just haven't seen any guys taking play off at all.

Edit to add a bit more: The offensive and defensive lines were the obvious question marks coming in to the season but they have far exceeded my expectations early on. Granted, I would like to see the DL watching the ball instead of the OL across from them. I think they would have better get-offs and not jump on hard counts like they did about 6+ times last night against Brookville. Also, they do have the nice luxury of being able to use Peyton Lewis at DE in pass rushing situations. He only played a few snaps on D yesterday but on one he made a great move on the OT, put a massive hit on the QB as he threw and nearly had a safety.

I have not seen a whole lot of teams this year, but i would not be surprised if this group of Salem linebackers is the best in the state regardless of classification.

Usually Salem starts off slow, but with where they are starting now, the ceiling is high. They look like they are in midseason form.

Excited about the game next week.
