I see 5 teams that could be in the final if this is set.

If Halifax can manage to beat Pulaski and Glass, I think we're going to see the Dan River Rivalry for the Championship. While we have the largest gym in the entire region, you would not be able to find an empty seat in Blue Heaven. I would highly recommend any basketball fan to come out to the game, because it would be the closest college experience you'd get at a high school game, if that scenario happens.

Glass is playing good ball right now, but I'm telling y'all, do not sleep on Salem. Well coached with good athletes. Bad loss to Pulaski at the end of the season but they are battle-tested.

As long as I have been around I've never heard of the gym called Blue Heaven. A GW/Halifax final for the region championship would be hype, but would it be a good game? The first one this season was a disaster for GW, but close. The next one was a blowout at the final horn and a disaster for Halifax. Interested to see what the third matchup would look like. GW has a budding rivalry with JF, and this year they have to travel if this is the setup. Definitely not a cake walk.

GW has to show more mental toughness. Thing is, people within will see this as a slight and not take it as constructive criticism. Nobody wants to see them win and succeed as bad as me but they all have to stay off social media! Coaches and players. Don’t know what was said after the Martinsville loss but they have to tune the critics out. That’s why Lebron is off of social media from April til June while he’s in the playoffs. Being focused will be the difference in GW losing a game they should have won and repeating this year.

IDidntGetBanned, I wonder what was said?GW losing to us shouldn't be seen as an embarrassment. Anyone that follows high school ball in the area, knows that Martinsville has talent year in and year out. We have a long history of winning. Lastly, we are a rivalry. Those games between us can go either way.

Not sure. GW’s head coach posted a long statement. I get he wants to protect his players but they gotta block that out. We all know that in our area, there’s no loyalty. When GW or Martinsville is winning then everyone is on the bandwagon.. When we lose, everyone points the finger. Block the noise out and silence the doubters at the end of the day. When the coaches are calm, cooled and collected, the team will follow. Kids need to learn how to fight thru adversity and not give up just because they don’t like what’s said or an adult or another peer. What will they do in the workplace when times get rough? I work with kids and that’s an easy answer for over 90% of kids these days.. THEY SHUT DOWN AND QUIT. Let’s block it out and just win. Nothing else should matter but those 13 players on that team and the coaches.

Go_Cometss is an HCHS student who is putting in a lot of dedication to try and build some sort of school pride at Halifax. He is even trying to revitalize the Vomet Crazies. He refers to the gym as Blue Heaven as part of his attempt. I for one applaud this young man for trying to spark some life down in South Boston.

Fine with me, just never heard it called that before. Wasn't a diss.

No offense taken. The gym’s name came from the homecoming pep rally when Principal Shealy described it as ‘a Blue Heaven’ We did a poll before basketball season on what to name it because ‘the gym’ was just plain and the name was unique. The name’s starting to stick, and the name will hopefully be in mind during the school replacement/remodel.

I had to leave at halftime for the GW game so I couldn’t say what exactly happened but I heard fouls we’re a big issue. I noticed that the a few games prior, and was a reason for the Appomattox loss two games prior. Since then they’ve made big improvements in cleaning up the foul trouble. They should have won the Martinsville game Tuesday, but we’re 2/10 at the free throw line (which was much improved tonight), and they lost on an amazing 3 pointer by Troy Brandon.

Yeah, GW/Halifax is usually a great game, but how hype do you think that gym will be if there’s a big shiny Regional Championship is on the line, where technically both teams are ‘defending champions’ (Halifax won 5D)?

However there’s obstacles ahead for both teams. Glass is a perineal powerhouse and JF has played amazing the past 2 seasons.

I was at the Glass-Salem game tonight and Salem was not athletic at all and the score showed! Not a diss but they only had one kid that could get to the basket for them. Glass was too quick and aggressive for them.

Glass @ Halifax should be pretty interesting.

Oh I was dead wrong! Happy for Best and Glass. That should be a great game.

Yeah it works in football but not basketball against an athletic team. Not a diss, just real talk! Glass and Halifax will be good! Wish they played a doubleheader of games at a neutral site like they do for 5A and 5B. Glass has a great coach!

I wish it was somewhere closer. I really want to go but that’s a long drive on a week night!
