7v7 and the Lineman's Challenge will be held this Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Mathews High School.

Great job to Mathews for holding this excellent event!

The teams participating in this Football Challenge that I am aware of are:

Mathews
Northumberland
Rappahannock Raiders
Gloucester
Surry
Lancaster
Portsmouth Christian
Smithfield

7v7:
Bishop Sulivan 1st Rapp 2nd

Lineman Challenge:
Smithfield 1st Rapp 2nd - The results were sorta weird as Smith placed 1st in Tug of War & bench press, 2nd 1v1, and 3rd in tire flip & fireman carry. Rapp had 1st in fireman carry & 1v1 and 2nd in the rest of the events so I'm not sure how the points were added up.

Overall a fun event tho

This could be the year of the Raiders in Football - possibly the best Raider football team in a very long time...

Two Big Questions -

1) Can Rappahannock finally defeat Essex this season? its been about 18 years or so since the last Raider victory over Essex. (Rapp plays Essex at home this year - this would be the year for them to do it....).

2) Does Rapp have what it takes to knock off the Riverheads machine (who are still under the Casto regime)?

- if that game comes about, yes, lots of football to be played, but an intriguing question to ponder).

Smithfield. According to uvacav’s list, Bishop Sullivan was not listed as a team there. I find it hard to believe a nationally ranked team like Bishop would take part in a 7 vs 7 with mostly mostly 1A schools. I’m guessing you meant Portsmouth Christian got 1st place.

For what input I got Rappahannock was 3-2 beating Mathews, Portsmouth Christian and Smithfield. Loss both games to bishop Sullivan. Gaines look pretty accurate and in good shape. Rappahannock OL will Be the centerpiece of team this year.

Northumberland went 1-3 beating Mathews and losing to Smithfield and Bishop Christian twice. Adams looked sharp with the new young weapons. However Freshman receiver seem to be the stand out for the Indians

Surry and Lancaster didn’t attend cause of numbers

Essextrojan1, the list I used must have been the schools who had already accepted the invite from Mathews.

Bishop Sullivan must have been a later addition to the teams participating. Glad they came. Good practice for our local boys.

Essex also played in 7v7 that same day at King George (a 4A school up the road a bit).

Not a bad result for Northumberland at all then with solid competition for the younger kids to train against.

Very excited to see NHS QB Mason Adams run the offense with a year under his belt with Coach Lewis. Adams is good indeed and a strong leader. I expect he will develop that vital chemistry with some new guys and the returnees - has some solid talent to work with etc.

If Coach Lewis can continue instilling more discipline and building his tough, energetic and focused culture, NHS could very well be in the mix...

@nnkalumni2 ... Thanks for clearing that up. I just find it odd that Bishop would join in with us smaller schools when they have 3,4 and 5 star players at nearly all positions. Seems like they would want to join in with teams like Oscar Smith or Highland Springs. Anyway...gonna be some really good matchups this year. Can’t wait!!!

Only 6 teams showed up
Rapp 4-2
Northumberland 1-3
Mathews 0-4
Smithfield 2-3
Portsmouth Christian (PC) 2-2
Bishop Sullivan (BS) 5-0

Rapp was 2-1 in pool play beat Mathews/Smithfield & lost their1st game of the day to PC. Was 3rd in pool play bc they lost h2h v PC so they had to play in 1st rd while BS & PC got byes. Rapp beat Mathews & PC in elimination round only to fall to BS in Championship. Rapp played without 3 starters in the championship due to injury caution. It was a good measuring stick to face BS, they were a well disciplined bunch
