That's what I've never understood. Why is it if a team is good and a person says they are good they automatically become a fan? I'm not a fan of GW, really not a fan of FC either (although I would like to see them win because they are my alma mater), I believe GW is the best team left in the West (by a decent margin), but definitely am not a fan. I was actually cheering for the FC team, but what happened, they went out to Essex and played tough and kept it competitive for a little bit, and then ended up getting boat raced. The fact that they lost didn't bother me, what bothered me was when I looked on FB all these FC fans were crying because they refs cheated them. Really? The refs cheated you? It was 37-13. Refs make mistakes for sure and sometimes can cost someone the game, but not in a 37-13 contest. Again, just because I believe GW is good, doesn't equate to me being a fan. Come up with something else boss.

Why do people have a problem with blaster getting on here and giving his opinion? Atleast he's not a farewell fan like some on here where were you last year when FC was0-10 and the start of this year before they beat Galax oh that's right you weren't on here the last anyone really heard from you was when FC had the greatest team to every play football that went to Essex and got there a$$ handed to them.This gw team is very talented and so is the pm team that's coming to wytheville Friday night they beat your pioneers by a combined score of 90-27 so maybe after Friday night when Galax ends your season you will disappear again.And don't get it wrong I don't agree with everything that blaster says but I will give him credit when he's wrong he does eat his share of crow.

I just see a jealous Fort fan, not liking all of the hype being on the game other than his. There is a reason we all unanimously think Galax will dominate...because they will. Fort89 is one of those fans that. If FC wins everything is okay. But if they lose it's always the refs or something else not the fact that they got their a$$ handed to them. People like him just want to stir the pot. And myself don't put much into what he says. Blaster can get under your skin don't always agree with him but 99% of the time he's right. Both Fort89 and Blaster are obviously very passionate. But there is a bit of hyperbole that I read from a neutral perspective tainted in the tone of blasters posts. It can be quite obnoxious sometimes consistently getting "GW is the best team to ever come out of SWVA" shoved down our throats. There is a certain arrogance that portrays GW is far and away the premier team in SWVA. Certainly they boast tradition, and certainly they have had success, but those outside of Wytheville don't view GW in the same way the view a Salem or Richlands, I can promise you that. PM has a much more outstanding tradition and I do not see anywhere near the arrogance coming from the posters about their football program. I didn't even know the name of GW's field, so referring to their grounds as "hollowed" or "sacred" or whatever - - it's clearly not the case. I understand passion, but to me, it puts a sore taste in my mouth when thinking about G-Dub. In the past five years, I would argue Galax and Fort have been the 2 premier teams in the West with both producing multiple Division 1 football players. That's to take nothing away from GW, just an observation. Altavista even though they are east, certainly has claim to being the most storied team in Virginia 1a. Old Clintwood, Old Appalachia and Powell Valley -- GW couldn't touch in terms of tradition. GW has had some success but I would argue, they far and away have more than not under performed expectations. Year in year out we hear "GW is clearly the best team ever". yet they've only won 1 title in the past 15 years and had some really hard times 2005-2011. That said, I'm sure Blaster is a super nice, super passionate guy, who obviously cares more than most of us ever can imagine, and for that he has my respect. I may add that most of if not all of Appalachia and Powell Valley wins came when there were 4 divisions. Man talk about tough teams! Those guys didn't know how to lose.
Fort89 were you one of the 100 or so people at the Essex game the other year that cussed the Essex players as they left the field and then surrounded the locker room where the refs changed to yell and cuss at them? Heck the refs even had to get a police escort off the premises. Guess the refs made it a 37-13 game. I know not all Fort fans are like this because I've met some good ones throughout the years but I will say in all my years of watching, playing and coaching have I ever saw a worse display of sportsmanship as I saw that day.

Probably one of the Fort fans who called the police and ended a soccer match at Narrows years back because they thought the opposing fans were acting "too hostile" Which was actually them going to the fence and demanding the coach be reprimanded and leave...I mean that will happen when the coach calls a Narrows student a "stupid SOB"...Fortunate enough to be officiating that one. Yeah, Fort is historically a class act.
That's fair and I don't claim that GW is on a Salem, RL, Phoebus ect. But we are very very good for a 1A team and a mung 1A teams over the last few decades GW has always been near the top. Lets look at what you said about GW, Galax, fc from 2005-2016
Galax is 85-57, 3 double digit winning seasons and 1 state title, 7 winning seasons in a row
FC is 80-58, 3 double digit winning seasons and ZERO titles, 1 winning seasons in a row HAHAHAHAHA

GW is always pretty good but also play in a pretty week district. Not to say they wouldn't do well in other districts because they would but their overall record might not be as good. Just an observation from an outside perspective.
Alot of them get mad cause I'm right 90% of the time and I support my team no matter what. It's like the Patriots, Geoff Gordon, and LeBron James they are hated cause they win. For me it's cause I'm right and can prove I'm right with FACTS. I say absolutely nothing that I can't back up with proof. That's true and I've been saying it for years I wish GW was in the TRD. Nobody is to far away and nobody is out of our league. GW has competed and beat all of the "Big Dogs" in the TRD. But the time of the HOGO is over so now we will see what we can do. I will say this the HOGO produced top level teams for a vet long time. Chilhowie, Lebanon, GW, RR, he'll even Holston has 2 really good years.
May I add to my comments for those out east - - and I mean zero disrespect towards Fort89 in saying this. I have no clue who he/she is. In my observations, I believe Fort has a significant reputation of being pretty classless, crass across all sports. This extends from players/coaches to fans. I've seen many basketball/baseball games at The Fort over the years and have always came away disappointed with how their players handle themselves. I have not always been impressed with the attitude displayed by those coaching as well. I've seen fights in basketball, baseball. Heard numerous 4 letter words fly from coaches/parents and even players mouths towards other players/refs. There are GOOD ones in every crowd and I'm certain Fort has more than a few. The kid whose pitching at Concord is a class act and a fine young man. The Hamm kid is a class act. Coleman Thomas although I've never met him, seems by all accounts to be the kind of kid you or I would want to have. I do not intend to belittle those who have played with dignity and respect in these comments. That said, I've long observed a culture that seems to suggest from a young age that says "it's okay to be sore sport". Just my two cents.

1) I have formed zero opinions of you. My comments were not directed toward you; simply an opinion I've formed of Fort over the years. Seem like a nice enough dude. My comments were not intended to throw shade at you, rather highlight the reputation Fort Chiswell has formed over the years.
2) I have zero affiliation with any single a school. I have connections to almost every school in SWVA, so it's kind of hard to root for a particular school, although if I had to pick I would probably root for PM to win it all. I wouldn't mind to see Fort win either, as I really respect the job that's been done there.
3) I will not be at the game in Galax on Friday. I don't even live in Galax. I've seen a quarter of Galax football this year, and if they make the title game, I won't be going.
4) I'm a 4a guy who graduated from Galax nearly ten years ago. I do not consider myself a fan as I don't have many ties of significance to the football program. I follow Single A football/sports, as I think they are much more competitive/interesting than the higher levels. There is a certain community aspect here that the higher levels lack.

I was in the locker room telling my son and the rest of the players what a hard fought game they played. Only one person cussed the refs. Before you go trying to slander someone, maybe you need to know what your talking about. How do you know you haven't met me.
Added to this, I don't hate or have any great disrespect for them. They have some good coaches over there and have done a tremendous job with their football and baseball programs. They just have done things a little different than the way I was brought up and hey - thats okay.

One thing I want to make sure I communicate that may not have been done so in the original post. Fort has a certain culture. They play with a certain chip. "Us against the world","underdog" etc etc role. They have thrived in doing so. There have been way too many people to count, including players coaches and parents who may get a bit more crass than most, that have sacrificed a lot for the growth of sports in Max Meadows. The culture has certainly grown and it is something the community has thrived around - - and a lot of people deserve credit for the hard work that's gone into developing that. My comments weren't intended to take away from that.
That said, the culture that's been developed there isn't for everyone and wouldn't be my top choice. A few "intense" people from fort I've come to know are some of the best people I've ever met. I have respect for them and don't necessarily take anything beyond the field when it comes to that. That's the great thing about HS sports.
Not jealous at all but sometimes you have to see yourself in someone else, to really know what an ass you really were. He's being an arrogant ass about this team and only GW fans, thinks it's okay. This whole thing didn't start by anyone thinking Galax will win. They are good and have a program over there that ever school should model after. I think PM beats GW on Friday. fri nights game should be a good game between to great teams, both schools are passionate about there football, both teams have football tradition, if u are playing the Friday after thanksgiving, means u have had a great season and a run in the playoffs and also u are in the elite 8. as for blaster I met him at the rhs vs George wythe game last year, really nice guy, and all the fans at George wythe were really nice as well, so maybe he can do a meet and greet at the flagpole like a few of us did last year, so hope everyone has a great thanksgiving and see some good football on fri night and may the best teams win, GO BIG RED AND GO COWBOYS
