Well that wasn't your typical 1st qtr

George 2 McClung 24 Sharpe 4 Compton 6 Ervin 8 Dean 11

End of 3rd qtr GC 87 - Wise 55

George 2 McClung 33 Sharpe 6 Compton 9 Ervin 17 Dean 14 Vermillion 6

Devils win 99 - 70

George 2 McClung 35 Sharpe 6 Compton 9 Ervin 18 Dean 17 Vermillion 6 Hicks 6

Not saying this was the case tonight as I wasn’t there but Vermillion needs to quit crying to the refs every time mcclung gets a foul called on him. He did the same thing in 3 games at the Arby’s.

That Abingdon game at GC still bothering you that bad? Vermillion is a class act guy. If hes griping about something its more than deserving. He takes up for his players....as he should. Hes their coach. Give it a break dude....its exhausting!

Has nothing to do with that game, I wasn’t there. Just stating the obvious about vermillion. Everyone outside GC knows it. He has a beef with McCamis and acted like a fool

Gate City 99, Wise County Central 70

The Blue Devils splashed in 16 3-pointers in another high-scoring effort to claim a Mountain 7 District victory.

Mac McClung paced Gate City with 35 points. The Blue Devils also got 18 points from Zac Ervin and 17 from Bradley Dean.

Tyler Vanover led Wise County Central with 23 points and Isaiah McAmis added 22 for the Warriors.

I'm a little confused - is there a referee named McCarnis - and then there's a player for Wise named McArnis? Or is that a typo?

Are they related, by any chance?

It's McAmis. I spelled it McAnus for the obvious disdain.

TJ is Central's head coach. His son Isaiah plays. His wife is banned from the Prior Center at UVa-Wise (or was, anyway, not sure if the ban is still in effect) for attacking a referee during the Christmas tournament last year. @BigWinners probably has more info about that particular incident since it happened during a Union/Central game in that tournament. I am assuming that is why this game didn't get played at UVa-Wise and instead had to be played at Central's soapbox gym.

I don't know all the details from the incident last year, only that some Central fans and the coaching staff had an interaction with an official that was anything but pleasant. It was absolutely ridiculous and sadly not shocking. The game was physical but far from anything crazy, like a certain team undercutting McClung on a dunk attempt or a certain team having a player bust a kid from Union in the nose with an elbow in a situation you don't often see elbows thrown.

I know some places and officials have had unpleasant encounters with some family of the Central staff, and AFAIK the craziest of the bunch isn't TJs wife, it's his mother. I was under the impression she was the one involved but I don't know that and vould be wrong.

I also think that UVAW isn't keen on hosting Central basketball games like they did in the past. That could be pure economics, or it could have to do with how Central has behaved up there in the past.

Not just basketball either, there was an incident with a baseball dugout as well.
