STAUNTON — New district, same result.

Robert E. Lee clinched the Shenandoah District boys’ basketball regular season title Friday night after the Leemen dominated the Page County Panthers 76-50 on Senior Night at the Paul Hatcher gym.

The Leemen, playing in the Shenandoah for the first time after leaving their long-time residence in the Valley District, also clinched the No. 1 seed from the Shenandoah for the Region 2B tournament.

Lee essentially had this one settled in the first six minutes, blowing out to a 16-2 lead behind six straight points by Everett Castle.

Page made it slightly interesting when back-to-back-to-back 3s started a quarter-ending 11-2 run that cut the deficit to 18-13.

But Lee slowly pulled away throughout the second period, capped by a 12-0 spurt that opened a 44-23 advantage.

And for good measure, the Leemen scored the first 24 points of the second half as the margin mushroomed to 70-25.

“Winning any title is big,” Lee acting head coach Terrell Mickens said. “To do that in my first year of coaching is truly exciting. Getting the No. 1 seed is important as we will be playing at home."

Jarvis Vaughan, playing his final regular-season home game, led the Leemen with 12 points. Fellow seniors Jahleel Pettiford and Akadeon Napier added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Lee has nine seniors on the roster.

The Leemen wrap up the regular season Tuesday at red-hot Stuarts Draft.

The Shenandoah District tournament begins Feb. 9 where top-seeded Lee hosts the No. 8 seed, which will be either Stonewall Jackson or Luray.

Lee’s jayvees are one victory away from a perfect 20-0 season following a 71-50 romp over the Panthers. Elijah Simms led the Leemen with 20 points, while Ethan Painter and Javon Battle each had 15.

Good to see you feeling better and posting scores again!! That Lee Vs Draft game Tuesday should be a track meet. Draft is a dangerous team when they're hitting from three.

Congrats to the Leemen for the regular season title! Now onto Draft and the district tourney.

Thanks Leemen - appreciate your kind words.

I'm still not 100%, but definitely better.

The Cougars are one of those hit or miss teams - can be blown out or upset a good team.

A 3 always beats a 2..........

I was just wondering what the score would be if Stuarts Draft and Gate City were to ever meet somewhere down the road...
