One day after his team's 77-60 loss to Oscar Smith in the Norfolk Scope Holiday Classic, Lawrence Glover informed players that has stepped down as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, VA, a decision that Truckers Athletic Director David Moss confirmed to VirginiaPreps.com on Tuesday.

"We'll get an interim coach and get through the season as best as we can," said Moss, who added that the interim coach will likely be Quentin Harper, the J.V. Coach.

Hired in November of 2015 after a stint as an assistant coach at nearby Norcom High, Glover has gone 2-23 as Churchland's Head Coach. That includes a 1-7 mark this year with their lone win coming at Booker T. Washington, 50-48.

Glover, 43, also has previously coached girls basketball at Smithfield and Surry and was a boys basketball assistant at Lakeland.

The timing is somewhat surprising given that Churchland led undefeated Oscar Smith - which is 10-0 and ranked #2 in the state in Group 6A - in the second quarter and proved to be competitive for much of their contest against the Tigers on Monday.

"I thought they played well. I'm just very shocked," Moss added.

Churchland hasn't had a winning season since 2008-09 when they finished 13-11 overall under Pat Dulin.
