Jeff Butler went 3 for 3 from the plate while driving in two runs to lead Western Branch to a 5-2 win over Oscar Smith in a Conference 2 semi-final. Three pitchers combined to hold the Tigers to two runs with junior Corey Klak throwing the first three innings and Matthew Roth finishing the 7th inning.

Butler gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning with a Single to right field scoring Grant Miaorana who reached on an error. Western Branch stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 3rd inning with three straight hits from Roth, Butler, and Connor Rhem. Butler doubled for his second RBI and Rhem plated in Butler with a single.

The Bruins added two more in the 5th inning. Roth drove in a run with an infield grounder and Butler scored his second run of the day after reaching base with his second double of the game.

Oscar Smith started a rally in the top half of the 7th inning scoring a run on a 2-out single by Daniel Quan to cut the lead to 5-2 with two on. Quan finished with two hits. Roth was able to get catcher Nick Scianna to fly out to left to end the threat.

Klak completed three scoreless innings of work to improve to 8-0 on the season. The Bruins pitching benefitted from three double plays.

Thomas Packert took the loss for Oscar Smith tossing six complete innings. He allowed four earned runs and 10 hits. Cody Comparto doubled in Packert for the Tigers 1st run.
