Bro they're 3-8 who do you think is going there? You have any idea how easy it is to recruit as an SEC school? It's a joke. Shane couldn't sell any better than what Pry did year 1 at 3-8. Go look at UVA's class if you want to see problems. VT selling a top 35 class at 3-8 isn't even comparatively bad.
You telling me they can't beat out Syracuse? Duke got a better QB lol. I don't know. Maybe the back up from Baylor will do ok.
They got the 4* from Baylor. Honestly, recruiting non-blue chip guaranteed super star QBs is just dumb now with the portal being what it is, much better to let someone else develop and you take from there, especially for a rebuilding program. Non-blue chips take far too long to develop when immediate success is required for new HCs.
It’s about optics, right now the group of 5 teams are winning more games year in and year out but it’s largely due to scheduling and who they play. If you give JMU a full ACC schedule I don’t think they go above .500. To put it into perspective liberty and odu lost to the p5 state schools. ODU pulled out a thriller on game 1 at the beginning of the season vs tech but they aren’t competing with them week in and week out. Recruits who go to the group of 5 are either under recruited or choose to stay home/close, you don’t see many highly rated recruits choosing group of 5 over power 5 and it’s due to the things the power 5 offers more than the group of 5 (facilities, programs, alumni network). As evident by the state rankings for VA this year the top talent wants to play for the state schools or a power 5 institution. I’m not taking anything away from these kids accomplishments who choose the group of 5 route but let’s stop the facetious narrative of JMU, ODU, Liberty and the FCS schools are over taking UVA/VT for anything specifically on the field and recruiting. I do love the fact these group of 5 institutions offer the talent in state that’s overlooked for bigger fish and gives them opportunity to get a free education and potentially more.
The portal makes it easy if you aren’t playing here, go to school xyz and you’ll be given a chance to play day 1, hurts the non premier signal callers coming out of HS, but also allows them to go to a smaller school fcs or d2 and transfer up after putting up numbers.
