A wide open Tigers receiver drops a pass in the endzone. Oscar Smith nearly had the chance to tie with an XP.

Sack by Matthew Vojta and Madison forces Oscar Smith to turn the ball over on downs again. Warhawks offense takes the field.

Travis Johnson into the endzone on a 27 yard play for Oscar Smith. Penalty at the end of the play and the extra point is good from 35 yards away. Tigers are tied with Madison 14-14. 1:45 remaining in regulation.

Fumble recovery by Oscar Smith after a big Warhawks passing play. Tigers already in Madison territory to start the drive.

The Tigers have already moved to the Madison 12 yard line. Time out with 0:29 on the fourth quarter game clock.

Brandon Nesbit carries the ball into the endzone on a 2 yard run. Oscar Smith retakes the lead 21-14 over Madison. 0:19 remaining in the 4th.

Cael Yates with a 48 yard pass to Dominic Knicely as time expires and Madison trails Oscar Smith 21-20 with the extra point pending.

Gonna be some talking points there but props to both teams for making big plays in the final minutes.

Smith played like underclassmen but never quit. Their future is bright. What a huge improvement over last year. They have a bright future.

Anyone know what the kid or kids did which caused the excessive celebration penalty to be called?

And where was the officiating crew from? I'm guessing Richmond?
I didn’t see anything on both calls when Smith scored and when Madison scored, must of been something someone said, but nothing out of the ordinary from any other td celebration that I seen all day.

I rarely ever complain about the refs, but in a state title game between 2 undefeated teams leaving it all on the field, there's no way either call should have been made. Not against Smith, and definitely not on the last play of the game on one of the best Hail Mary plays I've ever seen. Instead of everyone talking about that play and the potential OT, here we are discussing how the refs made it about themselves and ruined what was otherwise a great championship game

You hit the nail on the head. This is the damn state title! You have to expect a celebration like that after the hail mary. Thinking back now Phoebus got a flag for celebration on the hail mary last year.

Ideally, you'd like to see the players be mindful of the situation and not put their teammates in a bad spot with excessive celebrations. Imagine if Oscar Smith missed their extra point after that call. That was a challenging XP for a high school kicker, they are fortunate that he was able to make that one. But these are teenagers playing in an exciting state title game that is down to the wire. You're going to have to expect the spirited celebrations in moments like that. (Especially after a ridiculous hail mary as time expired.)

If there is ever a time to let things slide a little bit, it was in a game like this. I'm only calling the personal fouls that are blatantly done in the face of the opponent or confrontational that could stir up a fight. Which I don't think was even close to being the case on either call. This game definitely deserved those calls to be left alone. I would have gotten into the ears of the players and left it at that. (Not that the players would have cared lol)
