The playoff matches are getting more intense as we get one step closer to the regional championships. Here are the predictions for these key matchups who will get closer to their goal of winning a title.

CLASS 2 REGION A

GREENSVILLE COUNTY (9-2) at KING WILLIAM (8-3)
Fri. 7pm
In order for the visiting Eagles to stay in this contest then they will need to make this a defensive struggle. King William will need to get up early and that will take great production from Kaleb Shelton and Tre Robinson. If the Cavaliers can keep the rushing attack strong look for them to pull away before the half.

PREDICTION: King William 34 Greensville County 14

POQUOSON (7-4) at THOMAS JEFFERSON (8-3) Fri. 7pm
Both teams come in losing 3 out of their last 5 games. Each will be trying to find the early to mid season play when they both were dominating. Poquoson's ground game will be the key in order for them to win time of possession and keep TJ's offense on the sideline. Aziah Johnson will have a huge advantage the Vikings must exploit on offense.

PREDICTION: Thomas Jefferson 28 Poquoson 20

CLASS 1 REGION A

WESTMORELAND (5-6) at ESSEX (11-0)
Sat. 1pm
The Trojans have too much firepower on both sides of the ball and will be trying hard to prevent a let down. Dorian Harris can help make sure there won't be any by coming up big on the ground. Just too much speed and athleticism but the fact they are rivalries could be the only spark Westmoreland needs to give a better effort.

PREDICTION: Essex 58 Westmoreland 12

NORTHUMBERLAND (8-2) at KING & QUEEN CENTRAL (9-2) Fri. 7pm
King & Queen will be trying to get their experienced group to play their best football if they want to have a chance to appear in December. Malik Holmes will need to find their rhythm through the air which will help them next week. In order for the Indians to get the upset the ball will need to be fed to Cameron Seldon, the future Volunteer playmaker.

PREDICTION: King & Queen Central 33 Northumberland 26

CLASS 1 REGION B

SUSSEX CENTRAL (7-4) at RIVERHEADS (9-1)
Fri. 7pm
The last time these two squared off Riverheads held the Tigers to negative 12 yards of total offense. That was 3 years ago and Sussex Central is much more improved offensively but is likely a year away from making this a big game. Cayden Cook-Cash will not be denied in this one. The week off will show that it did the Gladiators good.

PREDICTION: Riverheads 40 Sussex Central 8

BUFFALO GAP (7-4) at CENTRAL LUNENBURG (10-0) Fri. 7pm
The Chargers are back playing title contending football averaging 43 points a game which is the highest in team history. Led by running backs Bam Jones and Kemarion Watson, the Chargers have been flying below the radar in class 1 despite being undefeated. They can show their worth versus a gritty Bison team that would love to make the trip back to the Shenandoah with an upset. Charger Country expects greatness Friday night.

PREDICTION: Central Lunenburg 48 Buffalo Gap 20
