Crazy story of the week: Varina @ Herm

Looks to be the wildest story in the state right now. They were scheduled to play last night but the bad storms made them postpone. I’ve heard Herm assured them that they’d play tonight or Saturday due to Herm’s short week (they play PH-Ashland next Thursday). Varina was waiting around all day on Herm to give them final say but of course Herm did not contact Varina and did not answer the phone when called by Varina. I was told that Varina had even found refs from out of the Richmond region to officiate. Herm’s head coach then sent out a message to his team (that has gone viral) that Varina isn’t trying to play them and they are focusing in on PH-Ashland. Insane!!!

Imagine playing and losing to arguably the best team in the state by a TD and a week later, is scared to play Hermitage. Make it make sense.

This feels like the beginning of the end for the Herm coach. Going to be very difficult for people to believe in anything he's trying to do now.

Where are the AD'S, Principals, and even Superintendents in this deal? While football coaches obviously are nearest the situation they have bosses charged with oversight.

smh I feel bad for the alumni @Herm all of their hard work and dedication they put into that program is being treated as a joke by this new regime. Letting Bedwell go was a massive mistake

Honestly, the Henrico County Public Schools Board and administration should be embarrassed at this level of dysfunction within its system. It's one thing when it occurs between systems but, within the same system makes the whole operation look like a clown show. Not a good look for any system but, doubly worse for a larger system like Henrico.

Shouldn't surprise anyone. Earl Kinney was the only coach that Herm has had the last several years, and look what hes doing at Godwin. Herm hasn't been a class act since Pat Kane left in 2017.

As evidence to the fact that the Henrico School System is dysfunctional at best, especially when it pertains to activities and athletics, remember when they passed over some potentially solid coaches and hired Johnson from Matoaca? Do you remember how that all but destroyed Hermitage football? He was hired strictly because of connections and friendships, his ability to run that program was totally absent. Everyone on the outside looking in could see the it was going to be a disaster. And it was!

Similar situation....KWHS hired a new AD and Coach Roger Brookes got ran out so the new AD could bring in his "crew"....talk about a shitshow.....zero accountability. That was several years ago....but....
