The VHSL state cross country championships for Classes 1, 2, and 3 were held on Saturday, November 16, at Green Hill Park in Salem. Western Albemarle’s Warriors rolled to their third consecutive boys Class 3 team title, posting a perfect score of 15 points. Christiansburg and Maggie Walker finished second and third, respectively. Jack Eliason finished first to lead the WA parade of five runners in the top six (one athlete running as an individual, who didn’t count in the team scoring, crashed the party).
In the girls Class 3 race, Maggie Walker - winner of five of the last six team titles in 2A/Class 2 - was unphased by the move up to Class 3. The Green Dragons took the team title 48-62 over Western Albemarle; Hidden Valley took third place. Mary Caroline Heinen of Maggie Walker crossed the finish line first to lead her team to victory.
Congratulations to the Warriors and Green Dragons!
