Basically no decisions or guidance until June 25 Directors meeting. Key will be Governor’s stance on social distancing. If there is strict social distancing required, fall sports will be canceled, period. With Northam I wouldn’t count on dramatic easing. Draconian Michigan is letting restaurants next week for indoor dining, we are still stuck in phase 1. Everything here is very slow. Things are better, not worse here yet masks are now required. That is not a good sign. All posters concerned with the current year match may be very disappointed.

I’ve already accepted that we will not have a football season. This weekend I was at the Waterfront Walk in Alexandria and things looked normal besides the masks on faces. Hundreds and maybe even thousands of people out. Life is going on in some places, on hold in others. Being in education, an employee in our district tested positive and was working the food distribution at a school. Not looking good for public schools starting back up in the fall either. May not be back in the building until a vaccine is made in February 2021.

Sadly, all it takes is one faculty/staff member, one student-athlete or one coach getting infected to stall everything even more. At least the majority of protestors are wearing masks.

Seems like Phase 2 is inbound shortly (the 5th is the first possible date) since positivity % keeps steadily dropping.

They shouldn't be making any decisions right now anyway. Either they give the thumbs up now and have the possibility to pull out if we get a nasty rebound wave in which case people like you are furious because "why would they say one thing and do another" or they wait until the last possible time when either the numbers will look much better so they can play sports and open school (farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr more important) or they're clearly worse and it's not a surprise to anyone that things are cancelled or delayed.

Still three months until schools would possibly open, no idea why everyone is getting ants in their pants at this point. Think of where we were at the start of March because that was three months ago. A lot can change in that time.

Football and many other school programs can’t wait until September to decide what to do. Many programs have to figure out financial scenarios in order to be successful. Many schools start early or mid-August.

I think you’re right that leaders are going to wait as late as they possibly can to try to get it right, but there is a practical “drop-dead” date on fall seasons. It is much earlier than September 1 for most.

Eh, opening on time and not opening at all are two totally different things, same goes with sports. This is a very fluid situation, people need to be equally as fluid in their response. If everyone really wants to see football again, you're going to want them deciding in the 11th hour because, providing we don't get a nasty second wave, that will be when the numbers look best for it.

Delayed/shortened season has always seemed the most likely for a bit now. That is likely where college football is headed, too.

Some school divisions much closer to 2 months. Unless they delay things.

In the local paper the local football HC were interviewed and they stated the no workout rule in the summer would affect conditioning that affects any start. They stated you can’t just jump back in, they would have to get conditioned in practices first taking away time from the learning of the game plan. Also an issue is the required helmet certifications and the companies involved not yet processing anything. Lastly, the required medical exams need to be done and no doctors have been available to do. A number of moving parts. Lead times will be needed. A decision around July 1 would be best. Discussions have been made around either a 9/1 or 10/1 start.

The first weeks of August practice have always been for conditioning. Not all players even attend summer workouts when they are available to be done and even the ones that do have to get in actual football practice shape.
