Isaiah Seaborn fires a completion to Zykeem Fields as the Eagles rolled over the Tigers.
EMPORIA- Having rivalry games late usually motivate both teams to play hard late to bring out the best in them and ready them for the post season. Tonight that theory would only benefit one team who was very hyped up and ready to play on this Thursday night special due to rain approaching the region. Sussex Central needed the victory to keep a chance of post season play a possibility. Greensville County was looking to improve their seed for their return to the post season.
The Tigers got the ball to start but would go for it from their own 40 on 4th down. The Eagles would quickly raise up to hold the Tigers short. The Eagles would dodge a momentum breaker when they would fumble and Sussex Central would miss the ball 4 times that would have been a return for a touchdown ended up going out of bounds and Greensville would cash in on the second chance. Soon after, sophomore running back Kemory Sykes would burst to the home sideline on a 24 yard touchdown run. Rikarie Tucker would bang for the conversion to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead.
Sussex Central would then have a streak on the field that would close a door of opportunity with each one. The Tigers would fumble on their next possession and the Eagles Isaiah Seaborn would repond with a 26-yard touchdown run. Greensville led 14-0 with 1:45 left in the first quarter. Greensville would then recover the onside kick and Tucker would power through from 20 yards out to make it 20-0 Eagles early in the 2nd.
Lezhan Peebles came up big for the Eagles on several big catches.
Another fumble by the Tigers but this time the Tigers would hold defensively. They would then get on a drive that made the crowd believe they would begin to make this a game. Sussex Central would get to the Eagles 26 yard line before the ball would be coughed up and the Eagles would recover with 3:32 left before the half.
The Eagles would hurry up and get down the field. With the less than 40 seconds and no timeouts remaining, Greensville would turn to Tucker from 6 yards out for the run. Sykes would get the 2 point conversion to make it 28-0 all Eagles at the half.
Coach Mario Walton's Eagles would take the opening drive and would continuing craving up the Tiger defense to put lock up their playoff clinching victory as Tucker would bowl through for another score. 34-0 Eagles led with 7.23 left in the 3rd.
Desmond Lewis (6 ft 2, 335) for Greensville dominated the line of scrimmage for the Eagles.
Sussex Central would avoid the shutout as Tyree Rose would hit Malik Lankford for a 68 yard touchdown pass. The Tigers (2-7) lost clinched for the Washington & Lee Eagles finishes up their season at Surry County.
Greensville County(5-4) will now see how everything plays out as they will either be facing Goochland or King William in the first round of the playoffs. Their regular season finale will be on the road in Lawrenceville versus the Brunswick Bulldogs.
