Essex vs Rappahannock Updates Here

Essex scores from 11 yards out on a 4th and 3. Two point conversion good. 8-0 Essex 8:27 1st quarter

Essex strikes again with a Stewart TD run. 2 point conversion no good. Essex leads 14-0 3:48 1st

I'm not trying to be offensive to Rapp, but stating the obvious. This game is over. We talked about whether the moment would be too big for Rapp as Rapp has a solid team and beat Essex in regular season, but Essex has been in big games for years and years and this is kind of new to Rapp. You can see it from the body language of both teams and the feeling is palpable that the moment is too much for Rapp. They are completely shell shocked and this games ending is one Rapp will learn from and they will be battle tested and have that big game experience going into next year.

Essex forces an interception and is deep in Rappahannock territory with 1:18 left in the 1st

Rappahannock forces a fumble at their own 9 yd line. Let's see if they can capitalize. 3:41 until the half. Still 14-0

Essex leads 14-0 at the half. It feels like it's a bigger lead than that. This game is being won in the trenches. Essex does need to limit the penalties, but other than that, it's been a dominant first half. Rapp gets the ball to start the 3rd, and they need some kind of answer if they want to get back in it

Flags killing Essex They could have been up another TD or 2. The 2 that gets me hot are the unsportsmanlike flags.

Rappahannock drives all the way to the Essex 1 yard line, but then get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and turn it over on downs. Huge chance blown

Essex immediately makes them pay as QB Keion Hence takes it 89 yards for a TD. Essex now leads 20-0, 8:08 3rd quarter

Rappahannock turns it over on downs. Essex ball on their own 44, looking to add to their lead

Essex 41 Rappahannock 0 Final. Essex dominated this game from the opening possession. I said it before, but games are won in the trenches and the Trojans dominated on both sides. The Essex defense hasn't allowed a point in the playoffs yet and they seem on a mission. If they play like they did today, they'll be extremely tough to beat

I was skeptical before the game on how the defense would play but man, a lot of momentum and confidence after this big win. #2 and #4?? from altavista will be a tough challenge to stop but I’m a believer in this Trojans defense.

Essex left no doubt today. Next week's game will be a tough one. Stone for Altavista is a load at RB, but the way this Essex defense is playing, they'll make him earn every yard. The only thing that worries me about Essex is if they're in a tight game or down and have to pass, because they rarely ever pass or even need to pass.

Buffalo gap ran the ball decent against Altavista, I’m not sure if they have the speed to stop Essex. Last year Essex was limited on offense due to injuries when they played. #2, #6 and #3 for Essex will be new faces to altavista.

Buffalo Gap runs the single wing, whereas Essex runs the double wing. Obviously similar offenses, so Coach Jones will have a great film to watch to see how Buffalo Gap had success. And yes, having Holmes healthy this year, and Stewart, who is hard to believe he's just a freshman at 6'3 225 lbs. Hopefully the Essex fans will make the trip to support the Trojans

I was at the game. It was tough to watch at times with all of the stoppages.

Essex was clearly the dominant team and it wasn't even close.

The key play was 3rd and Goal at the 1 for Rappahannock. The Rappahannock player dives to the Goal Line and lands on a defender while outstretching the ball over the Goal Line for a Touchdown.

The Linesman ruled the runner down short of the line to make it 4th and Goal at the 1. However, the player wasn't happy and said something and got dinged for 15 yards for an Unsportsmanlike.

That made it 4th and Goal at the 16 which Rappahannock would not convert. Essex scored on a long run after that and it was over.

In my opinion, you don't flag the player in that situation. I think it's petty. It's a big game and a big moment.

Would it have changed the outcome if Rappahannock had scored? Probably not. But it sure would have made the game more palatable to enjoy and probably boosted Rappahannock's attitude and demeanor.

That play was definitely a huge shift in momentum, and it was almost immediately followed by the 89 yd TD run and it was game over

Watched game on NFHS......Rapp ran a very unconventional defense. Essex in Double tight/Double wing and Rapp did not have a single defender in 3 or 4 point stance, everyone up on 2 feet. Is that a normal look for them? Very difficult to stop a strong rushing attack in that type of front.
