Lafayette cruises past Smithfield. Second week in a row York narrowly averts an upset to a team with a losing record. With three minutes to go NK scores but fails in their 2 point conversion to win. Based on these last two games and the opponents York doesn’t appear to factor in Region 3A this year. They are now struggling with mediocre teams.

I wouldn't say that York won't factor in Region 3A. Sometimes these close wins (even against lesser teams) can help a team to become battle tested in critical moments of the playoffs. It seems to me that Tabb and New Kent simply played York tougher than Lafayette did based on scores. I think every team in Region 3A will be a factor and will have something to bring to the table come late November. Right now I believe that Hopewell has been the most dominant and consistent team so far but there is plenty football left to be played in which everyone will get better.

Agree w/PHSB&G, just because York has had a couple scares with lesser caliber teams, record wise, doesn't mean there not a regional contender. That said, I'd love to see a York-Lafayette game in the playoffs. Don't know if it will come to fruition, but I'd love to see it.

I hear what you are saying but Lafayette played the same two opponents in the prior two weeks and won by a combined 97-2. That much of a difference means something is afoot in performance.

I didn’t see the LHS vs YHS game on film but from what I heard Lafayette certainly had a poor game. However; 2 TD’s called back and over 120 yards in penalties will not only deflate your team, but it will kill any chances of the win. I was told from a York parent ‘Lafayette couldn’t fart without a penalty being called.’ I would love to see the rematch

That York parent was correct penalties everywhere and 2 TD’s called back and another 1st and goal from the 9 ended with penalties on 4th down back at the 20. I would love a rematch though probably unlikely. The result would be different, guaranteed.

I see what you're saying about common opponent score differentials. I really don't read too much into that as I do the matchups. Some teams are just a bad matchup for others. Please don't take what I'm saying as throwing shade at Lafayette because they lost to York. I personally, I still believe that Rams are the best team in the BRD. The playoffs are simply about matchups and not who can win by the widest margin against a common opponent.

I agree match ups are the key in the playoffs. But at some point when enough common opponents show a big disparity in margins something can be said. In addition to the Tabb/New Kent comparisons for Lafayette, Phoebus played Gloucester and wacked them 42-7, while York squeaked by 17-13. In 4 weeks we will see.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year! I love this time of the year in HS football. Also, if Phoebus, York, or Lafayette were to knock off Hopewell, I'll definitely be making the trip to Lynchburg to support the Peninsula/Middle Peninsula.

I know something that should be more telling than common opponents, head to head
That can be deceptive too. 2 or 3 years ago in game 10 a really good Smithfield beat Grafton by 6 Tds and the next week in round 1 they met in the playoffs. Grafton win convincingly. A few years ago we lost in the playoffs playing a team a second time. These days injuries, penalties and field conditions can really affect a second go around with a team. Especially with the players being teenagers.

I'm not questioning who would win a 2nd time
