As of Labor Day morning, it's predicted to rain most of Thursday in these parts with more than 50% chance of showers on Friday. But, Saturday looks good but I highly doubt any of these schools in Region 1A would play that day because that's been the trend for years now.

I'm saying everyone should play Saturday. Thursday is going to be a Wash Out & Friday some of these Local fields will be to wet. SATURDAY ADs Lol

Problem with Saturday is with the state of emergency being declared some school systems close to the bay will potentially cancel practices Wednesday. You might see no school either Thursday or Friday, or both. But I'm sure teams would rather get the game in than what happened last year with teams rescheduling all over the schedule. I think at some point there was a varsity game played on every day of the week (not the same week). Hopefully ADs will avoid this scenario.

Would'nt that make for the same problem for monday games as well?

As much as I know this throws a wrench into teams preparing and the normalcy of a routine, I pray for safety for all of those that will be effected first and the football schedule stuff will work itself out. It seems like the last several years have had unusual weather events causing major scheduling changes across all sports.

Two of the major issues with games too now is the inve$tment in fields and the well-being of student athletes. It's an AD's worst nightmare.

I'm going to predict that all Region 1A games will be postponed and reset for Sept. 9. Sept. 7 would make more sense, but rarely are games made up on Saturday out this way.

I'm not sure why Saturday's aren't used for makeup games in these parts. It only throws everything off by one day, and you don't have to force the kids to play two games in four days, not to mention the headaches that it causes for coaches. I did see where Charles City has moved their game to Saturday night. Maybe others in Region A will follow suit, but I doubt it.

I have the same question, especially for the team I root for. No legitimate reason why the game cannot be played on Saturday. And waiting until Monday just screws the kids over with prep time for the next game. It's not hard to go out and check the field Friday morning and go from there to decide whether you play Saturday afternoon or Saturday night. I'm not sure what has changed in the last year with coaches not wanting to play due to field conditions. WP played RHS in a tropical storm on a sloppy field three times just to complete one game. Now we have coaches canceling scrimmages and moving games with 1" of rain in the forecast.

I can't speak for every school, but at least in the schools that I've coached at, the coaches don't have a say at all. Those decisions are made by the AD and higher ups. Nearly every coach that I know would prefer to play on Saturday instead of Monday. Unfortunately, many don't have a bit of say.

Essex at Surry Monday and then 3 days to get ready for a big rival game that Friday with 2A King William. Not good.
