GIRLS BB: Union at Ridgeview

Big game tonight for the Lady Wolfpack. Union is 0-9 all time against the Lady Wolfpack. Union is coming off a crucial loss to Gate City on Friday which all but eliminated them from winning the M7 regular season title. Ridgeview desperately needs a win here to stay one game back of Wise Central in the M7 standings, as Central comes to the Ridge on Friday.

Counts, Ridgeview get past Union

Nikole Counts came up big again when it counted.

The Ridgeview standout had 21 points, five rebounds and four steals as the Wolfpack earned a 48-44 Mountain 7 District girls basketball win over Union on Monday night.

Counts had 14 of her 21 points in the first quarter.


Bailey Frazier had 10 points and four rebounds, all in the second half as the Wolfpack improved to 13-5. Ridgeview hosts Wise County Central on Friday in a marquee game between Southwest Virginia powers.

Zoe Brooks and Heather Lipps scored 11 points apiece for Union.

Bailey got hit in the head about 1:30 into the game and didn't play the rest of the first quarter or the first 3 or so minutes of the 2nd quarter. The referee made a nurse check her over before letting her come back in. She left the game again a few minutes later and was taken into a room at the end of the court. She played very limited minutes in the first half, and was visibly still not herself in the second half.

Union was without Abigail Webb and Autumn Varner. Never heard why they weren't there, but it looked like they had pulled one girl up from JV just to have 8 girls to play. They had several girls with very limited experience playing a lot of minutes last night.
