Got me brother but those numbers are way off.....those are the numbers from the years I was there. Long before then.VHSl numbers come from the school. Why would the school say they had 200 more kids than they really had?

The 04 defense was awful though.I'd put the Gretna 03 and 04 teams up against anybody. Vic Hall, Rico Reynolds, Marlon Moon, Shaun Haskins, Horace Hubbard, Brandon Turner, all them boys were some dogs!
Me and Lindsey had a great one on one match up in 96. We talked about it a few times at Lowe's when I worked there and picked up from his store in Lynchburg. Appomattox beat us 38-16 but I held Lyndsey to 2-8 catches he did get one TD but the other catch I stripped him for a fumble. We battled and when I saw him nearly 20 years later we went straight to trash talk. Real good dude I'll never forget that night.Lindsay Fleshman played at JMU and arena ball. I believe he was after Haley and Moon though.
Hearing about the run that Appomattox has made in the 2A realm and how many are comparing them to some of greats in 2A has me thinking, who's the best team you've seen? Classification doesn't matter. My list is as follows (I know, I said team, but I believe that all of these teams have merit).
1). 1996 or 1997 Hampton: I don't think anyone could have contained Curry. Scored 819 in '96, and blew out the competition in '96 and '97 in the title game. I don't think anyone is close to these two teams for best all time.
2). 2014 Ocean Lakes: Just the amount of Division 1 players that played on that team alone gets them onto my list. Lewis, Taylor, Crosby, Hubbard, Simmons, Alleyne, Griffin, Womack, and Spence (x2) were ridiculous on defense. Definitely a fun team to watch.
3). 1994 Powell Valley: Although I've seen them on film, I give them a nod. I don't think they could match the teams I have listed before because the amount of talented players they have compared to the others isn't close, but that team did some damage!
I know people are going to disagree, but it's fun hearing who everyone has. I know you will disagree with my list, but make your own and have fun!!
Best player I've ever seen: Vic Hall. No question.
Simple your opinion......even if it's wrong.Vic was not better than TJ, simple as that.
As a UVA fan and yes I played at Powell Valley I say the Jones are better than Hall. All three are in the VHSL record book, but their talents took them to the NFL and Thomas is in the top 25 rushers in the NFLnhistory. I too, think the 98 team was better. That team was led by Julius. Having said that if it was either the 94 or 98 team as in one's opinion they where the third best in top 100 their talent shows they have talent to take them to next level no matter what level.
I was fortunate enough to see both Hall and Jones play. In the '98 state title game v. Madison County, Julius was impressive because of his speed. He was a great athlete. But in that game, MC's Kirkley was close to that level (went on to play at Pittsburgh). However, in Hall's senior year title game, he was just head and shoulders above every body else on the field. Unbelievably talented football player. IMHO, Hall was the better football player. And 98 PV was better than 94, two D1 kids, one who set records at ND and was a second round pick, and Warren played at Wake.
Honestly, I doubt it would have mattered what level Hall was playing at...he was that good. Imagine him playing behind a line from one of those Hampton Crabber teams?!? Not that Gretna did not have talented lines but...And it only took AL Groh 3+ years to figure that out!One thing to remember, Hall played at 3A level, while Jones was 1A or 2A. Big difference.

When Hall left Gretna he was #5 in total offense for all time in the entire country.
TJ had 6400 yards as a junior and senior. Did not start until then. Had 400 as a soph (10ypc) and 300 as a freshman (10ypc). If he has 100 carries both years he would have amassed nearly 10,000 rush yards. Hall started all four years and was the entire offense. TJ was only focal point lastntwo seasons. He had over 6400 yards his last two seasons, you don't think he could've amassed 3600 yards if he had gotten carries his first two years when he averaged 10ypc in limited duty?To believe that TJ would have had nearly 3,000 yards as a Freshman is a huge reach. TJ is an outstanding player, but I believe Hall was just on another level on the high school field.
TJ ended up with over 7,000 yards in three seasons. He didn't start as a freshman and still holds single season rushing record with over 3300 yards. TJ had 6,400 yards in two seasons. If he had been primary RB as a frosh, he would've ended up with nearly ,10,000 yards as a RB. Hall was dynamic and one ofnthe best in VHSL history but I'm not sure I put him above TJ, Edd Clark or Ronald Curry.
So if TJ was that good as a freshman and sophomore why didn't he get more carries? Hall had weapons all around him and he still was a stud.
I saw both multiple times and hall was better than Jones in high school no question about it
His first two years he played behind a first team all state back I think. I don't believe it was Hall. It might have been Bishop. Hall I think was on the 89 and 90 state champs.
Then you're justnbeing bias. No question about it? LOL yeah right.
Teams kept 9-10 guys in the box and he still set rushing record as ajunior w 3300 yards then racked up another 3100 as a senior. If he started all four years like Hall, he would've had 10,000 rush yards.
I can see the debate but acting as if it's no contest is ludicrous. I saw both play as well, and taking nothing from Hall but TJ did things I'd never seen any players do with a stacked box against him every time. Also an all-state S, so notnjust an offensive dynamo.
If Hall had played more than the 1st half in the majority of his games his numbers would be unbelievable. Hands down the best this great state has ever seen.....TJ had 6400 yards as a junior and senior. Did not start until then. Had 400 as a soph (10ypc) and 300 as a freshman (10ypc). I don't see why people are getting upset over this, it's just someone's opinion
