Greatest Team in VA History.....

To go in a different direction:

Who from VA has had the most successful college career? And NFL career?

I know Thomas Jones was successful in both but who are some others?

You don't understand why people get upset when they don't agree on something? Have you not been watching TV for the last year with politics? People who don't agree and are passionate about something, tend to get pretty upset.

There is a BIG difference in these. The politics thing is something that will effect people, either way and no matter who you preferred. This is an opinion on someone being the best player, not even someone still playing, so how does that effect anyone? Even if you don't agree, what does it matter who someone thinks is the best THEY have seen? I'll give an example of something that shouldnt effect anyone on here at all, even feelings. A lot of people say Michael Jordan is best player ever, some would argue someone else like a Wilt Chamberlain, or even go best player of this last generation, of course some will say LeBron James, some Tim Duncan, some Kobe Bryant. Does any of these opinions effect anything except not agreeing?

Whereas your example effects lots of things; surpreme court judge, immigration, insurance, etc. I get your point, but bad example

Just on shear athleticism alone, Percy Harvin was an absolute freak of nature. Allen Iverson did things I had not seen before or since. Everyone knows about the Hall/TJ arguments.

But the most accomplished football player to come out of Virginia has to be Bill Dudley. He is in the NFL Hall of Fame and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Ok, your opinion. Just keep on trying to be the peacekeeper on these boards. I see that's working out nicely for you

When I thought about it he was the first to come to mind. He was drafted #1 overall & won NFL MVP. Also won the Maxwell award at UVA. He could've been even more accomplished if it wasn't for taking 3 years off to fight in WW2

One of the nicest gentleman I ever had the chance to meet. Very humble about his accomplishments. I have no problem believing he is the best player to come from Virginia.

Too many people have anger management problems. It's amazing how much profanity is on social media. Thankfully sports message boards don't have much if any profanity, but a few get too emotional about someone's opinion.

Thanks for calling me the peacekeeper :). But what I dont understand is how you can't see the difference in what I was saying. Maybe I explained it bad, never admitted or pretended to be a genius. But how can you compare a disagreement on best player vs politics. No matter what side you are on politically, or even don't have a side, the person picked effects your life in some way. How does it effect yours or anyones life if I/or anyone says that someone else was a better player?

I'll break it down the way I see it. Let's just go with the assertion that Vic Hall is the best player, I don't know I never seen him play. But lets go with that. He goes to UVA, a very good school but hasn't been a great football program and doesn't play QB until the end. Had he went somewhere else, maybe he would have played QB. But how did anyone's opinion effect what he did, except for the coaches at UVA? If everyone on this board came to a consensus on him being the best, would that have changed what happened at UVA? Or would that change his stats or accomplishments? All that is would change is maybe Mr. Hall having bragging rights, as well as folks from Gretna being able to say they had the best player in VA history.

Whereas with politics, and I will use our president as example, if Mrs. Clinton had won instead of Mr. Trump, pretty much everything done so far would be different. Whether you agree with the new direction or not doesn't matter, its the point that things changed with a different outcome.

My entire point to you, was that I understand your point, I actually agree that people are arguing just because people enjoy the arguing, but comparing it to politics is a bad example because of changes that come with someone elected like that, not just a whos better argument

Bruce Smith, VA Tech NFL Hall of Fame from Norfolk VA, Allen Pinkett 2 time All American at Notre Dame played six seasons with Houston Oilers from Sterling VA Eddie Royal Alexandria, VA Tech 9 years in NFL was with Chicago Bears last year. Some others that made it big Ronde Barber, Darren Sharper, Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress, Heath Miller to name a few.

I know he did his time, but Michael Vick is still a vile human being in my book, and the rest of his family doesn't seem to be too much better.

Give me Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Smith, and Dwight Stephenson. All three were consensus All Americans in college and are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Time to let it go...Vick did his time(way too much IMO) so let it go

And in no way on earth is he anywhere near as bad as his useless brother

You probably still dislike him because you are one of these "my pet is my kid" type of person

This is a ridiculous comment. While I agree about Vick, to talk about people who love their pets? Pets are part of the family. If you don't agree, that is your right but I feel sad for you

Best High School - Vic Hall
Best NFL- Bullet Bill Dudley
Biggest Scum College - Marcus Vick
Biggest Scum NFL - Michael Vick

I:m going to go "Ole School". Back before they went to the class schools there was a gentleman from Appalachia. He was the Jones brothers uncle. his name was Ed Clark and he was known as " The Stongea Stallion" He played guard till half way thru his 10th grade year. He rushed for over 7,000 yards.. He was first team all state back when they had only one team instead of six. He went to Perdue and keep Otis Armstrong on the bench.. I believe it was do to academics he left school.

While what he did was dead wrong comparing dogs to human lives which some athletes have done is ridiculous

Had a former co worker tell me once "if someone broke into my house and said it's either you or your dog your choice" and they said they would let the person shoot them before their dog....talk about ridiculous

This is a ridiculous comment. Bill Dudley played during a time where I could go out there and run for 300 yards a game. Lawrence Taylor? Bruce Smith? Mike Vick? Hell the Barber twins are better than this guy. And to call Michael Vick a scum? LOL!!!!!! Dude did his time and has been more than a model citizen. You people on this 2a board kill me!

I do agree with you on Marcus though...total worthless human being
Mental illness exists you know. Marcus definitely has some problems. To call the guy a worthless human being is over the top. I'm no liberal political correct crazy but you guys have to do better. Sure the guy wasted a lot of talent and did bone headed things but to say the guy is worthless? Come on now.

People who abuse animals or other people that are weaker than they are...are scum in my book. We can always agree to disagree, and leave it at that. Not worth getting uptight about it, on either side.

I love dogs just as much as the next man, I have one at home in which I love dearly. What Vick done was wrong. He served his time and learned from his mistake. He's been a model citizen. He owned up to what he did and made the change. He's a hero. There's a lot of "scums" out here that do whatever they want. They abuse women, they do drugs, they have no integrity or show any accountability and they get by without ridicule. Was he wrong? Hell yeah he was, but let's not forget that men go out and kill innocent animals and leave them where they lay and call themselves hunters (and it's ACCEPTED by society). Vick did something bad and he made it right. He's been an advocate, mentor, and he's beloved by me and many others. To call a man a scum bag who made a mistake and didn't change his ways, yessir, he's a scum bag. Michael Vick is no scum bag. He is a model citizen and a role model. If all men would take after Michael Vick then this world would be in a lot better shape.

How dare you question Bill Dudley's greatness......the man was the total package and is in the NFL Hall Of Fame. He did it all before Vic Hall.....played RB, DB, Punter, Kicker, Returned Punts and Returned Kicks all in a game. Never left the field because of his talents, even filled in at QB a few times. Was great at Graham High School, UVA and the NFL. I suggest you google the man before trying to sell us on the fact you could have been just as good....LMAO

While I'll give you Vick served his time and has done a lot of advocating for dogs since.......to call Michael Vick a "hero" is a little much. I reserve that title for someone who goes rushing into a burning house disregarding their life in order to save someone's else.....and other feats equal to that......but Michael Vick, no sir, he is not a "hero"

Maybe not to you but like I said, we live in a time where it's hard to find men to take accountability for their actions, especially a black man with all of the stereotypes. This guy put Virginia Tech on the map. This guy is the reason we have the Tyrod Taylor's, the Cam Newton's, the Deshaun Watson's, the RGIII's. After Michael Jordan retired in 98 there wasn't any excitement until Mike Vick came on the scene. Everyone had a Vick jersey, his shoes, and everyone including myself wanted to be like Vick, pre and post prison Vick. So I really don't care what you or anyone else has to say about a role model. Vick exhibits integrity, humbleness and character and that's all you can judge one on. He served his time and he LEARNED from it. To call this man a scum is ludicrous.

Yeah... at a time where the avg player ran a 5.1 40. Get real my dude. Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Smith, De'Angelo Hall, Heath Miller, Michael Vick, Barber twins, David Wilson, Tyrod Taylor.. KAM CHANCELLOR.. and you name Bill Dudley... LAUGH OUT LOUD!! Not even being an a-hole or disrespectful to you but as a good sports debate, I just can't take that seriously my brother.

And you are 110% correct on what a hero is. Our police men, our service men, our firefighters, etc... they're in deed our heroes.

Figured you'd like that one....LOL. By the way my man Bullett won the "Maxwell Award" what would be the Heisman today. He started in college when he was 16 years old. None of your boys accomplished anything like that......in Bullett we trust!!!

Nowhere in my post did I say he was scum. I simply said that he's not a hero.

I've owned quite a few dogs, including now, and love them just like family. I'm sorry for people who don't have that feeling. And even though he didn't play for my team in the NFL, he was my favorite player. He obviously did wrong, and I can't condone his actions, but he did his time and from all appearances has been good since. It is terrible that we can call anyone scum. We all since and make mistakes. It may not be as bad as others, but just because someone does bad things, doesn't make them bad. There are no bad people, just bad acts. The way I was raised is not to talk bad about someone especially when you don't know them.

Thank you brother. Finally someone with compassion.

Always appreciate anyone's opinion..... but I call it like it is. What he did to Gods creatures is beyond comprehension. Spending a little time in jail and then going back to the NFL isn't enough pay back for the hideous acts that he carried out. Not asking anyone to agree but I certainly have the right to feel like I do.

Please. He got a longer sentence than some people who rape women and kill people get. But again, you got it.
