Hayfield

Given that wording, I'd be surprised if they play in the postseason this year, that's about as strong of a letter as you're gonna see given the circumstances. They might (keyword) remove next year's punishment but honestly, I'd almost condition that to Overton himself. Put a show-cause on him as a coach. If he stays at Hayfield, they don't see the playoffs next year. If he leaves or is removed then allow Hayfield to play in the playoffs next year.

I am not sure Overton is the only Hayfield Secondary School employee or FCPS employee that should incur discipline. The kids are being punished and the adults who aided, abetted and attempted to cover up the situation should be disciplined as well. I am not sure how the FCPS Superintendent has any credibility to remain in her job given the her initial "independent" investigation and ruling contrasted with the VHSL findings. The stark differences in the two reviews amount to much more than a reasonable difference of opinion and FCPS Board members should be asking themselves if she responds this way to athletics matters do they trust her to honestly respond to more serious matters that may arise within school administration and academics?

My question is why did he leave Freedom when he had a successful program. Did Freedom realize that he recruited there also and was scared they were going to be suspended. Inquiring minds want to know.
There’s a YouTube video out there somewhere on “The Kirk and Byrd show” with DO explaining why.

I’ve got to tell you that I find it pretty disrespectfully of the EC member that posted or allow to be posted a confidential memorandum.

Having said that, I liked what I read. The most important aspect of what was said is the that the Sportsmanship Committee may sustain, reduce, or enlarge the penalty.

Hopefully the Independent Sportsmanship Committee, less encumbered by political concerns, will appreciate the need to make a bold statement by dropping an even heavier hammer than the EC proposed.

Yall are some sad bitter individuals. Old men sitting around gossiping about information that doesn't pertain to you or your programs. So we go act like Dinwiddie ain't getting no kids from the Petersburg or Brunswick surrounding county area??? Stop it. And why yall ain't spending time doing extensive investigational research on Liberty Christian Academy? Yall know they are blatantly violating as formulated private school playing in Class 3 with Class 1 level enrollment, bringing kids from all over to winning Rocco his State Public Championships. But they have capital and top of the line attorneys to go against the VHLS we turn the other cheek. Lets call a spade a spade! It's sounds like covert racism being thrown around in these sports blogs as anonymous user names against predominantly black coaching staffs.

Hayfield was too obvious, flat out. This happens everywhere, sure, but most places it's a kid or three a season not an entire starting lineup. The school Overton left, where they won multiple titles and games in a row, couldn't play ten games this season because there weren't enough upperclassmen. If he leaves and takes maybe 4-6 guys then sure, that's not legal but nobody's gonna end up drawing a stink over it but this isn't college and kids can't just enter the portal en masse to follow a coach. SMU got the death penalty not because they were cheating but the way they were doing so, flaunting it to the world. You wanna cheat in sports you keep your head down and make small moves because a little ripple in the pond might just be the wind but a big ripple is where that monster bass lives and someone's gonna go catch it.

Imagine getting called out by the VHSL (an org that essentially doesn’t call out ANYBODY), and the reaction is to pretend it’s a racism issue. I think DO is probably a good coach who invests his time and energy and does right by HIS players. The issue is that in a public school setting in Fairfax County, you don’t get to just import YOUR youth league PME players from King George, Fredericksburg, Stafford, Prince William and then act like breaking the rules doesn’t matter. Public schools aren’t PME. You have a greater duty to serve that student body. DO has no interest in doing that.

No amount of word salad or whataboutism can justify the wrong-doing. Then to play victim as if YOU aren’t the one who inflicted this harm on the impacted kids, that’s just plain old gaslighting. And smart people have called it out correctly. Pay special attention to the flailing around and ad hominem attacks from these losers. They have no ethical high ground so they just spray bullets at everyone they can.

When you leave a program in total shambles, that tells me all I need to know about a coach. To completely gut a team to the point they go from undefeated champs to barely finishing a six game season, look inward. It’s easy to throw blame at poor admin at Freedom and Prince William, but what kind of man does what he did to that program? A selfish one, that’s who. He didn’t leave those kids at freedom. He straight up stole from them.

Once again nobody is justifying anything DO did or how he did it. I'm simply talking about the underlying issue, and that's the blatant disdain and targeting for towards him and his coaching staff as black men, who don't fit the "old school good old boy ball coach" appeal in Northern Virginia. Especially Fairfax County! Thees guys wear Jordan's, Fitted caps, Dreadlocks, Jewelry, Tattoos, athletic wear, they have swag, charisma, spunk, and that attracts talent and appeasement to the Top Tier athletes, and they coach at a high level. It's also called "Covert Racism", because the same men smile in their face, but spew hate and jealousy on these blogs. I'm not go sugar coat it. I'm calling yall out! It's needs to be talked about in 2024. Especially when yall get on here at talking about "tradition ", and take this high road using jargon like "integrity ".

Its been a individual or booster on here from Highland Springs program talking about using his million dollar lawyers to investigate and shut TF down Darryl Overton since the summer. The man don't even hide it! A real live personal vendetta. Some of yall better chill on here (DinwiddieProud), because if I'm DO, I'm going out like Nino Brown did in the movie New Jack City lol.

Very, very well said, WP02alum. This summarizes the issues perfectly and anyone who does not understand this needs to look at themselves if they defend these activities.

@Bucktown434, using the movie New Jack City and Nino Brown is an interesting analogy.

Just like in the movie based on a true story (Chambers brother, NYC) those modernly dressed and groomed (I could care less what they look like) assistants you speak of are Overton's minions who knowingly violate the rules to seek fame and fortune while oppressing others.

If my memory of the movie and sociology class are correct Nino Brown takes over a whole apartment complex to do business and make bank during the "Crack Wars". Two African American cops go under cover to take him out, because they detest what he is doing to The good people who reside there. He is eventually arrested and the system that you refer to as oppressive slaps Brown on the wrist with a one year jail sentence for crimes much more deserving of a life sentence. In the end and "old man" will not accept the plea, because he knows history will repeat itself and shoots Brown.

The sociology theory/lesson is simple. Get yours at all cost. Yes, some may benefit from your enterprise, while others suffer. Instead of using your God given abilities to benefit others by doing things right, you take short cuts and attempt to circumvent the system. Yes, for a variety of reasons others often look the other way. Eventually, there are those who strive to do right and they stand up. The snitches get stitches culture destroys communities and some finally get fed up and talk. The "system" continues this festering either by failing to hold people accountable or not providing the resources to prevent recidivism. All the while they're victims are left to fend for themselves.

@Bucktown434, I believe you hit a home run with your analogy, but this is not a black and white issue. We are all guilty of wanting to get ours and the lesson noted above surely applies to our current topic. The "hustle" has been going on for hundreds of years. The only differences are the names and faces have changed.

Totally off topic but why would I go to Hayfield if I lived in King George. Understand PME because they are good but high school ?? Makes no sense. Just a thought lol

Bleeding Navy- You need to stop bro! So if we decided to do a extensive deep dive journalistic approach on Billy Mills and Dinwiddie residents over the last 10 years, we will see that ALL them kids that came through that program was born and raised in Dinwiddie County???? I'm talking about never left the Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Prince George, Brunswick, South Hill jurisdictions to live with a grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin, or friend to play football???? Stop it! My daddy always said. "The buzzards fly high, but they got to come down LOW TO EAT". Oh and why you ain't doing all this talking about Liberty Christian Academy and the Great Frank Rocco? These people are bringing in kids from North Carolina and New York. It's a difference. They got that million dollar establishment to fight the VHSL. That's the difference. It's called corruption. But you know what I'm not going to dive into all that on here. I've addressed the Elephant in the room, and I know deep down I have stirred alot of yall consciouses on here.

What does this have to with Coach Mills and Dinwiddie? @Bucktown434 I only responded to "your" analogy and agreed with you. I even went as far as saying "we" are all guilty. Many of the people who have responded to this posts are not "old white men", several are young intelligent black men who genuinely care about kids. What exactly is your agenda sir? Sounds oddly familiar?????

My agenda is you keep running your mouth on here about other programs, when your grass ain't cut. Keep you mouth shut and stop gossiping like women on these blogs. That's my point!

It is not really gossip when discussing publicly available reports backed with evidence. You throw around a lot of allegations but, if you have proof, why not make a public complaint? When people call something racist, sexist, whatever, be it in sports, politics, or other they are more often than not looking to deflect because they cannot dispute the facts, evidence and/or results in a more relevant manner.

All I keep hearing is "Everyone else is doing it" and not "we didnt do it."
Naw that's because you have "Selective Hearing or Listening". That's what is called my guy. Once again. I'm not justifying Hayfield actions. I'm simply stating that when I see certain verbiage used, underlying racism and attacks on here, I can read subliminal catch phases and statements. And it's alot of that going on in here. This debacle is deeper than transfers and creating a competitive disadvantage in high school. It's alot of people in here should keep their mouth closed, because if people start digging into their respective programs, they will BE EXPOSED!

Hey @Bucktown434, read this. It's not gossip! Lol. Expose what? I will not shut up and will continue to advocate for doing right. Whether it's Dinwiddie, Hayfield, or any other programs who circumvents the rules.

I have spent 36 years encouraging all kids to work hard, do the right thing, and not take short cuts. I refuse to accept any other path other than to tell our youth that yes there are barriers and obstacles, but you can accomplish anything you desire. Enough said.

I would think the prime example Bucktown would look into is Huguenot. They literally brought in a boatload of players and not a single soul cared or has stopped and said how the hell did that happen.

With that being said the playoffs are basically here so lets move on from Hayfield who will be watching from the sidelines anyway. They got caught and still gloated about it. They got what they deserved.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 omg this is HILARIOUS

Huguenot might be the next to get caught. They were downtrodden for years and years, now magically overnight they're a state power. Pretty soon there will probably be a transfer portal in high school smh
Fake news. Most of those kids are Southside kids who Tom Hall would’ve gotten at Manchester 3 years ago. Gotta stop with these narratives.

I get what @Bucktown434 is saying. Recruiting goes on in every good program, whether its player/coach/youth league coach initiated. I highly respect Billy Mills and Dinwiddie’s program and IMO he models what a high school program should look like. Many people did want to come cry wolf when Huguenot, Highland Springs, Freedom, Phoebus and Maury loaded up on talent. Often times we don’t hear a drop about Lord Botetourt (who’s had how many of Covington’s and Alegheny’s players), those Southside Richmond/ Chesterfield All Star teams at Manchester, Liberty Christian and Riverheads. We know good and well those teams were recruit heavy. Cheating is cheating and IMO, Hayfield got what they deserved. All I say is keep that same energy with other programs!

I agree @BoKnowsSports. Manchester had it's fair share several years ago. I even admitted in 2014 we had three players legally transfer to Dinwiddie for a variety of reasons. I just don't like the AAU type mentality (play where you want). There is no identified proof that Huguenot has done anything wrong. It just looks wonky. I agree we should not point fingers at any school until there is identified proof.

To be real, everything posted on this thread has been substantiated and according to the Fairfax News proven by a denied appeal. Hayfield is reportedly continuing to fight by appealing to the entire VHSL Board.
