Here's a Recap of Day 1 of the Henrico Holiday Hoops Tournament...

Trinity Episcopal 101, Gar-Field 48: Moving to 9-0, Trinity shot 51.5% from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point range in the first half to bolt to a 24-point lead at the half against Gar-Field and never looked back. In fact, the Titans shot even better in the second half with the big lead - 23-of-31 from the field (74.2%) - in scoring triple-digits on the afternoon during their opener at the Henrico Holiday Hoops Tournament.

Zach Jacobs led the way with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with nine rebounds. Armando Bacot chipped in 16 points, missing only one of his eight shot attempts. Zane Lewis added 12 points and five assists with only two turnovers and football standout Trevion Armstrong chipped in 11 points. Armstrong has committed to play his College Football at Nevada.

Gar-Field, which dropped to 2-6 overall, got 20 points in a losing effort from Myles Jackson. The Indians were 1-of-7 from the field.

Trinity is now 9-0 overall.


St. Christopher's 83, C.D. Hylton 72: Still undefeated at 10-0 now, the St. Christopher's Saints needed a fourth quarter comeback to overtake the C.D. Hylton Bulldogs, who are ranked #1 in the latest Group 6A Hoops Top Ten on VirginiaPreps.com.

Trailing 58-54 heading to the fourth quarter ,St. Chris exploded for 29 points in the final period. They were led by the hot shooting duo of Nick Sherod and Alex Petrie.

Sherod scored 34 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field, went 8-for-12 at the foul line and also grabbed a season-high 16 defensive rebounds. Petrie had 31 points - 21 in the second half - on 11-of-20 shooting to go with four steals. Both played all 32 minutes.

For the game, St. Chris turned the ball over only nine times and they finished 57.1% from the field (28-of-49). Meanwhile, C.D. Hylton went from shooting 50% in the first half (15-of-30) to just 38.7% in the second half (12-for-31). The Bulldogs are now 5-2 overall.

All five starters scored in double-figures for Hylton. Dwayne Hill led the way with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with nine rebounds. Jerry Carter (D-2 Mount Olive NC pledge) added 17 points and three steals. Tyland Crawford scored 14, while Josh Peterson had 11 points and nine assists, and Brian Smith tallied 10 points.


Henrico 96, Thomas Dale 63: Improving to 8-0 overall, the defending State Champion Henrico Warriors lit up the scoreboard for a 35-point first quarter and cruised past the Thomas Dale Knights. Henrico, which is presently ranked #1 in Group 5A, converted 56.8% of their field goal attempts in the firs half and shot 50% from beyond the arc (6-of-12).

Leading the way for Henrico was University of Richmond Spiders signee De'Monte Buckingham. The two-time reigning 5A State Player of the Year finished with 27 points on 10-of-19 shoting, nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Point guard Gus Rowland was an efficient 7-of-11 from the field with 21 points, four assists and four steals.

Timon Jones - a sophomore and the younger brother of former Henrico standout Timmy Jones (now at Virginia Wesleyan) - added 14 points and four assists. The Warriors dominated the glass to th tune of 50-36 and turned Dale over 27 times.

In the loss for Dale, C.J. Willimas had 13 points. The Knights were 6-of-23 from three-point distance and 15-of-27 at the charity stripe.


Collegiate 49, Collierville 47: In the closest game of the first day of the Henrico Hoops Holiday Tournament, Collegiate edged their visitors from Tennessee by two thanks in large part to their presence in the paint and depth.

Collegiate out-scored Collierville 24-14 in the painted area, including 8-0 in the decisive fourth quarter, plus had a 16-2 advantage in bench points.

Jed Londrey scored 12 points to lead the way for Collegiate. Berkeley Geho notched all 11 of his points in the first half. Evan Justice came up with eight rebounds and three steals.

Collierville, which shot only 34.6% from the field (18-of-52) and was 4-of-9 at the foul line, placed three players in double-figures. Brian Green scored 15 points, while John Walker and Tay Morris scored 10 apiece.

Collegiate pushed its record to 5-3 overall. Collierville fell to 3-8.
