Highland Springs at Chambers (Charlotte, NC)

Yeah @HooSprings Im just joking on how you always list D1 offers in your analysis posts.

Are you excited about HS vs Oscar Smith Class 6 semifinal games in the future?
Omg yes! Those are the type of games that absolutely pack the stands no matter where the game is. I was telling a friend of mine, I wish all the teams in the state would step up and try to match up with a team of air quality from another state or region. I admit, I was really surprised to see Godwin beat Kecoughtan last week. I would really love to see a team like Varina play a team like East Forsyth from North Carolina. That game a couple of years ago between Highland Springs and Oscar smith was an epic clash of gladiators. I really wish they were a lot more games between the Richmond area teams and the 757 teams as well as the nova teams. I would love to see a doubleheader of Oscar smith versus Stonebridge and Highland Springs versus one of the northern Virginia powers like Madison or Westfield. HS already scrimmages South County. I would love to see it as a regular season game.

I will say this, I don’t like that they have made the region so vast that it could be a five hour bus trip for any team from the beach to have to play Patrick Henry Roanoke. i’m not fond of any Richmond team having to go all the way to Roanoke for a REGION game.

in my opinion, if any team wins a state championship two years in a row, the next cycle they should have to move up to the next division to play for that cycle.

for the record, just because a player is a Division I wide receiver, it does not make them a good defensive back, and vice versa!

YES!!! HS has played Oscar Smith 1 time. That game was at the Va. Beach Sportsplex. HS came away with a 13-6 victory. I know Smith is still looking for revenge! HS would like to flex their muscles again.

Highland Springs returns 4 out of the 5 offensive lineman, The one that left was replaced by a 6’6- 305 pounds Jr with an offer from UNC-Charlotte. So,that should be a great matchup in the trenches,on that side of the ball. HSprings had over 250 yards on the ground against Chambers last week. The Martinsburg RPO offense should be a good match up for the Highland Springs defense too. The ENTIRE secondary from Martinsburg will also need to be very good. Multiple division one offered wide receivers caught touchdowns against a very good Chambers secondary. I’m really hoping that Martinsburg is healthy by then ,on both sides of the ball, because I know they had three injuries last week against Salem.
Should be a good game. Whoever wins the trenches wins this game.

HS won the trenches against Julius Chambers,
I seriously doubt Coach Johnson will be playing Oscar Smith anytime soon because of us supposedly moving up to Division 6 next year and us having to take them on in the State Semis. I'm sure he would not want them to have any film or edge to game plan in the playoffs.

Yeah I agree. I understand that they are trying to even out the regions. In 4 region D next yr. They will have teams from Northern VA to Charlottesville all the way down to Danville. Looks like they will do sub regions for most sports.

First off, Nukk Houston was probably not going to make an impact. He is a young dude but would probably see just clean up time at this point. You are thinking of one of Xavion Kendall or Eric King. Kendall is usually lined up next to Ezra Bagent so teams have to respect the run when Bagent is in because he is not a runner. King is the unsung hero of the run game as he is the fullback who helped open holes last year for guys like Murphy Clement and Braxton Todd. Guys like King take the run game from good to great. And even with Kendall’s injury, Zion Grantham, a guy who many thought wouldn’t produce, filled the void as he Martinsburg’s first scoring drive out of the 2nd half

Both their d-ends are D1 material if you ask me. Aydin Fleming is 6’2” on a good day and is very technical and has violent hands. He is also twitchy off the edge (clocked a 4.7 at 240 lbs.) and beat frequent double teams from Salem to get a sack and a handful of TFL’s. EJ Hendrix (he was injured) on the other hand is getting his first season as an end and while he may not be at technical as Fleming, he is bigger (may be 6’3”) and is arguably more athletic, as he actually participated in Martinsburg’s shuttle hurdle relay team at 240 lbs. and he wears that weight very well. But when you have guys that are going to get game planned for, other guys are going to get their shine. Enter Xerk Yancey, he is only 5’9” and 200 lbs. but got some easy matchups as Salem game planned for guys like Fleming and Hendrix. Pretty sure he had 2 or 3 sacks and a blocked punt.

As for the Roman Pierson injury, he was the best player who got hurt but may be the most replaceable as well, as Jameer Hunter and Kash Gedeon both can make plays and take the top off of a defense.

All in all, the King injury may be the biggest loss as he helps Martinsburg open up valuable holes in the run game and get tough yards, but even LB Kam Shallis can do that to, but they don’t want to risk an injury if they don’t need. Martinsburg won’t really need any of these guys back anyway until Highland Springs comes to town, as their 2nd team can probably beat both Musselman and Sherando.

I saw the Martinsburg/Salem game. Salem doesn't look like previous Salem teams! Rest assured, Highland Springs is a completely different animal! As far as many can see, HS's only weakness is the kicker.

THIS HSHS team IS DIFFERENT! There is NO other way to describe it! They are not perfect, but they really bring it at every level. The chemistry is REALLY different this year. The QB seems to be poised and comfortable with ANYONE taking routes. The massive OL is opening running lanes so far this year against 2 very good defenses. The defense has been stingy! 3 scores given up vs excellent offenses. No team is perfect, but it’s gonna take a SPECIAL team to beat them. Anything can happen, but this reminds me of the 2018 team so far.

I've got HS as the favorite right now

I watched the game last year. It was a sloppy game. HS wins if they play a clean game.
EVERY HSHS regular season game was a mess last season. No chemistry was established til the playoffs. The lack of an off-season never cleared itself up. There was absolutely NO identity. It’s been a night & day difference, the first 2 games, compared to last year.
