A lot has been talked about the 3 state titles and the consistent reloading at HS. I would like to focus on something different, HS is now a poised team of good young men. I was not a fan of Scott Burton as HS coach, there was fighting in the locker room, gangs in the weight room, and a cockiness that included a police escort with sirens coming down Beal street prior to a loss to Herm in the playoffs.
They are a completely different team now, Johnson has them humbly going about their business of winning and winning the right way. The turnaround is incredible and showing up in the number of student/athletes going to college. Well done HS coaching staff!!!

That is big of you! With recents events one could understand if you felt a little sour... we’ll done! I agree, that program is elevating those young men outside of football.

Classy post and I agree. The coaching staff at HSHS has not only developed a sound team they have created a program.

Good post! Herm 5518, thank you! You are a class act. What Coach Johnson and staff are doing is just incredible!. As they put it, the football is secondary to the ultimate accomplishment! Changing lives, turning teenaged boys into upstanding young men, educated with life skills to last a life time! It's all about the kids here, the football is the icing on the cake! The foundation to the PROGRAM has been laid, following through and making it through is incredibly hard work. The prizes, championships, medals, trophies, notoriety is all part of the icing. The cake is graduating college, good job, raising a family comfortably and living a good life. This is what it's all about!

And now for the bad news. For all of the 5a schools, and all of the schools on the HSHS regular season schedule, there is trouble on the horizon. The HSHS JV has had two scrimmages and two games. The are 4-0, but that is not the story. The JV,'s have scored 207 points and given up 0!

So, if the completion is waiting for the Springers to have a few down years while they rebuild, then they better have a plan B!

They are averaging about 51 pts per game so far and nobody has scored on this young defense yet. The under classes of Springer football are VERY TALENTED!
