HSHS vs Oscar Smith

awesome thanks, gonna be nasty if they do play it
Not by Friday night. It is supposed to be long gone by mid day Friday which gives the field seven hours to dry. I’m guessing OSMITH doesn’t have a turf field?!

Not sure about the turf field, I don't think they do but not 100%, as far as the forecast, I got rain in Chesapeake until midnight Friday, guess we will see, mother nature has a mind of her own ya know

Correct. Smith has a top of the line grass field, not NCAA level but it would have been fine. I'm sure the concern was for the travel issues for HSHS as a team & your fans. It's the right call. Better parking but the lines to get inside are pretty bad. They have a pretty bad bottle neck with 1/2 the booths & entrances.

Seats are only on one side of the field. Do Home & Visitors share the same side of the field. There'll be signs showing were to go for each side.

Looks like our Tiger Cage experience will be transported over to VaBeach. That's a first! Normally, for those playoff games played at the SportsPlex, our Tiger Cage got left behind. It'll just add to the fun for Saturday night.

You can purchase tickets online @ gofan.com

It costs a little more but instead of waiting in the ticket line, you can head right over to the security line. Use your cell phone to show your tickets! I use it often.

Is this game televised at all? Anybody know?

That’s what I’m looking for, couldn’t make the game but trying to watch

OS 6 HS 0 @ half.

HS has had a lot of opportunities but our D has stood up strong! Despite a terrible kicking game.

Very true, HS has had great field position with nothing to show for it

For the first game with this new coach, it was a mixed bag. A lot of talent on a very young team. Much room to grow & improve upon. But, they overcame a huge number of self-inflicted problems tonight. I hope that gets better.

Refs were a little heavy-handed but that was for both teams. My only question was whether HS's second TD was a reception AND if it was inbounds. Without a replay, we'll never know. The Springers won and I'm already looking forward to next year's game!!

Last, it was really disappointing that this game was played at a neutral site. It just wasn't the same without our more intimate and louder home field!!

So I did not see the game but I was following on Twitter and via Matt’s live blog. Two extremely talented teams no question. Regarding the TD, I don’t think it would have been a catch if we had replay but it was a great individual effort that got rewarded. I don’t have a problem with the call especially with a HIgh school officiating crew.

What I want to know is how can the kicking games be that bad??? Seriously, how could Smith have to repeatedly go for it pinned deep in there own territory? The amount of penalties on OS was ridiculous and problematic. Can’t expect to win self destructing like that. @757FridayNiteZ I guess it depends on if you are glass half full or half empty guy. OS self destructed at times and you still were right there with the 5a 4 in a row champ... half empty is coach Scott teams do play really hard but are known for penalties and bad 4th down decisions. I’d say you should be glass half full though. It was only game one for you.

Doesn’t sound like HSHS was the epitome of efficiency yesterday either... feel free to correct me if I am wrong there. The idea that this team is unbeatable is silly to me. When you play a team that you can’t just dominate with talent and blow off the field things a change a bit. There are a lot of younger, newer players on this HSHS team. Still, finding a loss on their schedule is doubtful. Too early to crown the as the best HIghland Springs team ever IMO. I think the team with Dortch still has my vote, for now.

I was hoping we would see two excellent teams play excellent football. Sounds like it was two excellent teams that were fighting through an early season learning curve. Which is to be expected.

Finally, after 8 months of build up... how could this game not be televised, streamed, or on the radio anywhere??? What a shame!

I hope both teams escaped injury free and best of luck to both teams moving forward.

Smith's kicking game was bad, no question. But the concept of the rugby kick by the QB on 4th down was the right one. However, it was executed poorly. Preventing a punt TD return was the goal. HS has a long history of burying teams with kickoff & punt returns.

For the catch vs no catch, there is nothing that can change things now. I hope that coach Scott doesn't allow the team to dwell on that moment. He's a glass full type motivator. So, I suspect they'll focus on improving upon what they've accomplished to this point.

This Smith team is special. HS got what they wanted in a tough opponent and a rugged test. I hope their remaining teams don't think lesser of the Springers based on the score. It's doubtful they'll see a faster, more determined defense.

OS’s first 4 punts TOTALED 54yds COMBINED. I think the “quick kick” was a mistake with OS’s speed. Didn’t see them giving up any big plays with their speed.

I now have to worry about the status of HSHS’s QB’s right hand that took a nasty shot in the first half. He claimed to have pain in it following the game.

Very smart defensive change by the HSHS D coordinator at halftime. Completely shut down the OS offense with it(34 second half yards).

HSHS will get better in the red zone because of this game. 2 NASTY defenses!!!

Isn't the backup QB extremely good in his own right? I believe Springer told me there is a third one in the stable that is pretty darn good, too?

Dent is very good, but he is a transfer still learning the system. Nassir(Soph JV qb) is going to be another special one, but he has not seen varsity talent and with this schedule I’m not sure he’s ready. He is an awful lot like Jones, but he is a little taller. I look for dent to get the start versus Meadowbrook this coming Friday if they need to give Jones hand a week to rest. Highland springs will need Jones healthy versus North Stafford the following week.

I agree with @HooSprings and @mbonape1, I think OS made too mistakes on fourth down. The OS defense deserves an incredible amount of praise for having been dealt with horrible field position and seemingly no breaks in the second half, yet holding what most believed was the most dominant offense in the state. Before the game I expected HS to win by more, but during the second half I kept expecting it to turn ugly. Congrats to HS on getting the win.

Nassir is the jv qb now. They want him there so he can play regularly. With the JV team only having 6 games scheduled, he will most likely be on varsity come November!

Y'all gonna need a bigger, neutral game setting for next year's game. Maybe, we'll have a punter by then?! I hope it becomes a traditional event, too.

I only made my statement about Nassir due to Jones hurting his throwing hand, and possibly sitting out the Meadowbrook game. I haven’t heard any updates on his injury yet. I don’t know if Meadowbrook even has a JV or not.

If both teams win a state title this yr,I don’t know of any high school stadium in RVA that would handle it. Lol

HSHS won’t have a field yet,so I know it won’t be at Home!

What about City Stadium or U of R? You'd think the Spiders would see a bit of a recruiting advantage by hosting that game!

Either way, if both teams win their Class' state title, the Springers should get that game on ESPN! Heck, they missed the opportunity on last nights game IMHO!

That would be incredible! If both teams win titles (I think the both could) We might have to go to a college... Maybe Virginia State I've heard U of R is ex-pen-sive! City Stadium could be an option.... Maybe Hampton University! What a great spot that would be!

This team I would rank up there with the best of HSHS if they would have been able to retain Dreshaun Taylor. This junior class filled with talent is his class and if he did not go to LCA last night would have looked a lot different. HSHS got into redzone several times only to come away empty handed but the 240 pound running back would have changed that.

I agree I expected HSHS to win by at least 2 touchdowns which would have been don't forget HSHS wide receiver dropped a touchdown catch in the end zone that fell right through his hands in the 2nd quarter. Also we missed a chip shot fg from the 8 yard line. 10 points left on the field so uncharacteristic of HSHS

While it’s not particularly close to HSHS, City Stadium would be great. What’s the last football game they’ve hosted there?

City stadium is a good idea but as far as the notion of U of R getting a leg up on recruiting doesn't apply to HSHS because we are right in their backyard and as successful of a program we have been they don't offer our kids football scholarships.SMH
I hope both teams win the state championship so it will put pressure on ESPN to have the game televised

Actually....HSHS’s STARTING RB was in street clothes, and quite possibly would’ve helped more. DreShaun was nothing but troublemaker, and didn’t fit this well disciplined team. He was a cancer! He’s where he needs to be. HSHS is a better team for it. A 240lb troublemaker wouldn’t have even been on the field for Johnson. He runs too classy of a program for that.

NO RB will be successful against that OS defense! NOBODY!

HSHS has a pretty good relationship with Randolph Macon too,but parking there sucks
