They sure could use Capt. John Smith to come sailing back up the river.

Having won only one game in two years only tells part of the story. Scoring a total of only 46 points in 2014, last season was a huge improvement by comparison. The Eagles managed to put up 140 points last fall, on their way to a 1-9 season.

That's 186 points in 20 games. Not bad, as long as you have a killer defense. Unfortunately, giving up over 900 points in two seasons doesn't qualify them for that status.

Last season's win was a 14-7 win on the road at 2a Bruton. This followed what was almost an upset win by the Eagles. They dropped a squeaker at home on Friday before the Bruton victory, 28-27 to 3a New Kent.

Playing in a district that is not known for being loaded with powerful teams, just a little bit of improvement could help hem get close to .500. And, Maxpreps shows only four graduating seniors from last falls team, so maybe there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. I chose to believe this and predict that they just miss the .500 mark this fall, finishing 4-6. What's your opinion?

With most players returning their record will be a little better, maybe 3 wins. But still a struggle against the better BRD teams.

This is another defunct SouthSide District discard. They were all horrible. It's why Powhatan didn't lose a district game for more than a decade. Move on. Nothing to see here.

Shaunt Clair, lets get our facts straight on the Old Southside District. Powhatan shouldn't have been in the distict. Their enrollment was not consistent with the other teams being in a rural area with lower enrollment. Lets not make negative comments on a district who had some good teams and good athletes.

First, I was wrong about Jamestown. They were and remain Bay Rivers, which has some good teams like Lafayette, Grafton and York.

As for the SouthSide, most of those teams, over the last decade struggled to be a .500 squad, even among themselves. For more than a decade, they were the weakest 4A District in the State. I don't think that's disrespectful or anything. It just is what it is. Also doesn't mean they didn't produce some decent teams and players.

Pointing out facts is not disrespectful but the way you did it in such a condescending tone is! Besides the fact Jamestown wasn't even a Southside team, here are some other things to consider:

-powhatan was the only 4a team so of course this "was the weakest 4a district"
- for a while, Brunswick, Nottoway, and Bluestone "played up". Prince Edward's population varied greatly and for a cycle or two, they also played up.
- since the VHSL forced schools to play on level, Brunswick has been to the state finals and made other deep runs, Nottoway has been to a final four (plus regional finals and state finals while undersized 3a), and greensville had a great season this past year as well up in 3a.
