Just been reviewing some articles on Recruit757. It appears I. River is loading up & has some impressive talent to make a run in 2018.

QB transfer from Smith (great athlete but turn over prone), RB transfer from Norfolk Christian, and Ben Smiley with over 20 offers now. They likely have more kids with D1 offers than O. Smith does right now. There are at least 3 kids with VT offers.

I'm glad to see the talent improve across the S.E. District. Any team that comes out undefeated, should be favored to go to Regional Finals this year! A lot of talent at KF, Smith & I. River but I think those games are going to be decided in the trenches. And let's not forget about N. River & how they played against HSHS in the playoffs last year!

What do you think the rest of your district will look like outside those 3. How about DR, Hickory, WB? Any surprises anywhere else?

Deep Creek will be capable of beating anyone in the S.E. district but the other teams will struggle this year.

After missing 2016 and 2017, Ahshawn Moore is back for Indian River

by Andy Hilton, recruit757

The last time Ahshawn Moore played a snap for Indian River, he was a backup to Marshall University-bound middle linebacker Jaquan Yulee.

Yulee was a force for the Braves defense, and Moore was expected to be even better. Moore is a longer athlete with the potential to pack on muscle.

That potential wasn’t realized when academics dragged him down. Ahshawn missed his sophomore and junior seasons. That hasn’t stopped scholarship offers from coming in because there is promise that he’ll qualify for college and his athleticism is still obvious. Moore holds offers from several schools, including Virginia Tech, Marshall, Auburn, Hampton and Tennessee.

“I’ve missed it. I feel like a new person (putting on pads and hitting someone). I feel like I’m back now,” Moore stated. “(I’m excited) being out here with my brothers and having fun.”

Ahshawn has been around the program for the past three years, and even when he wasn’t eligible, he made sure he was around for training, practice and games. That has had an impact on his teammates.

“They look up to me. I’m a leader. Everything that I do, they do. If I come out with a tempo, they’re behind me. Everything follows behind me,” he said. “Thanks to Coach Brandon Trusty and Coach Dane working me out and keeping me in shape.”

Expectations are high for Moore and for the Braves this fall. When asked, Ahshawn was honest about where he stands as a prospect.

“I don’t think I should be (ranked as high as I am). I should be lower.”

We’ll see how his season goes and how the season flows overall for Indian River. The Braves open with an out-of-district game against Norview on August 30.

You can see more of Ahshawn Moore in action at the Portsmouth Team Camp in the video window below courtesy of recruit757 video correspondent Antowyne Shaw.

Indian River is undefeated (6-0) to this point with the toughest portion of the Southeastern District games coming up. The Braves play King's Fork this week and the 757 game of the year looming the following Saturday, the 20th vs O. Smith. Both teams should be expected to make Deep playoff runs.

Indian River leads the 5A (South) Power Rankings and certainly look to be the favorites to a likely 5A vs 5B clash against Highland Springs in late November!

What do you think will happen in the Fork vs IR game. I’ll take IR by 2 scores

I agree, IR should be favored by 2 TD's. Even 2 TD's would be closer than their other games. KF will test the Braves OL/DL which have tended to wear down after half time in their big games over the years. The IR quarterback, D Brooks can be a turn over machine when pressure or tough DB coverage gives him few options. But, to this point, I haven't seen him do that like he did last year when he played for O. Smith. If the turn-over bug comes back, KF will be in the game with a chance. The Bulldogs have the ability to provide the pressure but their ability to cover will definitely be tested.

I. River should be Undefeated @ 10-0 after next week's game vs winless Western Brianch. They had been on top of the Power Points but a win against Grassfield (4-5 record) wouldn't give them many bonus points either. But by beating O. Smith last week, they'll get plenty.

It'll be interesting to see if the 5 A/B South Regional games will have to come through Chesapeake. I don't remember the last time that would have occurred. It's been 20 yrs since I. River has beaten O. Smith. And they have 1 State Title in 1995.

IR's rating points is 31.5 and HSHS is 30.5 in week 8. Both teams 8-0... HS beat 2-7 PH Ashland last night. and play plays 7-1 Varina next week.. Varina most likely will be 8-1 playing HS next week.
Class 5b (Central Region), the lower tier (seeds # 2-8) all have higher rating points and wins than 5a (Eastern Region) #2-8 seeds. I really haven't done the math, but looking at the numbers HS will come close to catching IR, if both IR and HSHS meet at 13-0 in the 4th round of the playoffs, could HSHS catch or pass IRHS with the points gained in the playoffs?
Providing both of these teams advance that far, it's going to be real close as to where the game would be played. Any of you Rating scale gurus out there, give us your 2¢!

I don't think the power points reset or change after the regular season ends. The downfall of Hermitage certainly has hurt HSHS for their bonus power points vs previous seasons.

You are correct, the points are set after the last week of the regular season.
