[I’ve posted this on the Class 5 board, where it belongs, but I figured more people would see it here.]

Tonight, in Class 5 Region D, Patrick Henry blasted Albemarle 56-14, while William Fleming downed Harrisonburg 20-17. This is the first time that both Roanoke City schools have won playoff games in the same season since - well, never. Prior to 2019, PH and Fleming had never won playoff games in the same season. So, that’s a big first for the Star City’s two high schools.

Also, both schools broke lengthy playoff losing streaks. Fleming had lost seven consecutive postseason games, last winning in the Division 4 state semis in 2003. Meanwhile, Patrick Henry’s victory was its first playoff win since the 1994 regional semifinals, and snapped a ten-game postseason losing streak.

Congratulations to the Patriots and Colonels.
