An unsual amount of Thursday games? Was told today that at least 1 officials association has asked schools to schedule at least one home game on a Thursday so it can be adequatlely staffed. That's why you see K&Q hosting John Marshall on a Thursday, King William hosting K&Q on a Thursday, West Point hosting Rappahannock on a Thursday, Essex hosting Franklin on a Thursday, Mathews hosting Lancaser on a Thursday, Amelia hosting Franklin and Randolph-Henry on Thursdays (the Franklin game might be to avoid Labor Day weekend traffic).

I also noticed there was no Chincoteague, Quantico or Rappahannock County :(

I guess Chincoteague is still playing 8 man but not sure what is up with the latter 2. Sucks to see these small schools losing their programs.

Looks like Rapp Co isn't playing football as all their schedules are on their RSchool site with football not to be found.

From doing the Pick em each year, it's not uncommon for the teams in the Eastern Regions to play games on Thursdays or Saturdays. Presumably because a lot of those schools share fields- Hampton with Darling, and NN with Todd for example. But, you are right I can't ever remember a time when so many Western teams have games scheduled on Thursdays.

Those are mostly the schools in Hampton Roads. None of the schools in Hampton or Newport News have stadiums on their campuses. Plus, schools in Williamsburg/York County play games off campus with the possibe exception of York which is home to Bailey Field. Although I believe Bruton plays on its campus.

West Point played Rapp on Thursday last year. Labor Day weekend has something to do with that. The Colonial Beach game with West Point is on Thursday too. WP has their annual Crab Carnival that Friday and Saturday. They usually try and schedule Thursday games when they can to avoid conflicts there.
All that being said, lack of officials is a problem and only seems to be getting worse.

Quantico is playing 8-man:

The article also has Rappahannock County listed as an 8-man team this year.

Thanks

RCHS, A school with close to 300 students in it playing 8 man. I warned about this type of stuff years ago on here.

8 man makes sense if you have like 100 students in the school. But not 3 times that amount.

I saw an online story today noting that a Northern Virginia officials association has asked Prince William County schools to schedule Thursday or Saturday games in order for them to be fully staffed

I cannot ever recall having heard of a Quantico High School before. Is that by any chance new or a re-named school or has it been around for a while and I just never noticed?

I'm surprised you have not. I've mentioned them a bit on here over the years. They're a DoD school located on MCB Quantico. Or maybe the school sits right off of it as I've never actually seen the school, their games are played on the base. I think QHS has about the same enrollment as Chincoteague and in years past they've played in the private school ranks. They actually went to the state title game vs. Roanoke Catholic back in 2016. Up until recently they played football for most seasons since the mid-1950's.

They play their games at Butler Stadium located on the base and it has quite a history behind it as it hosted many games back when the Quantico Marines had their own football team.
