Aron Martin didn't dress out 2nite and he was missed on the court. I hope that he'll be back for Halifax Co on Tuesday.
My Dawgs won an extremely sloppy game 59-35 over James River. I think these kids are still adjusting. Once they get themselves aligned, then the rest of 2A better watch out.

IMO I think Martinsville will be better than last year. Yeah they lost a lot but they look really good. I saw them on BTW21 and Pettway looks like Emmanuel Reid running that point. Bratcher is blocking shots and rebounding and Aaron and Zanthus are shooting lights out. I honestly don't see any team but Halifax and GW seeing the DAWGS this year, unless they have some type of breakdown. Hali is the real deal! Thinking about catching the game tomorrow if I don't go to the GW/Bassett game.

Yesssssssir! I'll be there to check em out! You can tell these boys been playing together for a while. They got serious chemistry. If GW played like Martinsville then they would've won the states last year. Hopefully I can see the GW/Mville game this year. Honestly Idk if my Danville boys got the discipline to beat the Dawgs even though they one of the top 4a teams.

My Dawgs still have to straighten a few things out but I think they'll be fine. I can't believe Mat Hatfield has Gate City preseason ranked #1!!!!

Halifax has 4 or 5 guys listed at 6'3 along with a 6'4 and a 6'5. Add in the Smith kid at guard and this should be a stout test for the Dogs. The Comets also have a new coach. The new man has some awfully big shoes to fill in replacing Epperly.

The players respond to Coach Sterling Williams a lot better. He's been with the program for a while and he's a lot younger and can relate to the kids. I think Halifax will contend with GW and Martinsville for the Piedmont this year.

I can't wait to see that Cam Lewis vs TJ Pettway battle when the Dawgs play the GW Eagles. No disrespect to James Smith but these are the two best PGs in Southside..Cam can score anywhere on the court and TJ can do it all too... And to think Pettway is just a junior.

The kids at HC may be able to relate to the new coach better, but Epperly is/was a tremendous coach. I say that especially as a guy who understands the intricacies of the game. If there is one team that has done well against the vaunted Martinsville "zone", it's the Comets.

Epperly is/was indeed a tremendous coach but I have to agree with AntGZee that he forgot that everything about student-athletes has changed since he started coaching. The coach has to be "in charge" and there were times Coach Epperly was totally ignored by players who evidently thought they knew more about the game than he did. And that can be the "deathstroke" for any coach. I have seen it first hand - a coach losing control of his team in the middle of a game, and his team refusing to listen to anything he says - especially threats of a tough practice the next time.
