Thanks for the head start. Here are a few more details. Page scored a couple of quick buckets to go up 4-0. Riverheads then scored the next eight points to take an 8-4 lead. Page then eased back in front 10-8 by the end of the first.
Jalen Brown hit what I believe to be his first career three-pointer to put Riverheads back in front 11-10 to open the quarter. Bradley Roberts then hit one of his three triples a few moments later as RHS took its biggest lead of the night at 16-11. At that point, Page was shooting terribly, especially from the foul line. But they woke up and went on a 9-0 spurt to take a 20-16 lead. Riverheads got a late triple from Drew Bond just before the horn to trim the margin to 25-21 at the break.
Page then opened the second half with an 11-0 spurt to get a working margin and coasted from there. Roberts momentarily broke that run with his final three of the night but Page moved on to the win. But the Big Red should take comfort from knowing that they can play with the big boys for a half. They did the same thing at Luray earlier this year and of course took Nelson into overtime last week. So they are making progress in small ways.
The JV game played out in exactly opposite fashion. Page scored the first 12 points of the game and looked like they were ready to run RHS out of the gym. But the Gladiators got their own rhythm going and stayed within 6-8 points most of the rest of the way. Page could never quite shake them and won by a 39-28 final score. Should be an interesting re-match at Riverheads later in the season.
Riverheads travels to Nelson tonight, and then finally their schedule eases up a bit. Not that playing Wilson at home Friday will be "easy" but four of their first six games will have been on the road against the best teams on the schedule and they will be able to compete more favorably the rest of the way. They are a young team and it is all a part of the growth process.
