PM'S COOK GROUP 1A STATE CHAMPION X2, FISCHER RUNNER-UP

Parry McCluer "BLUES BROTHERS" Senior, K J COOK(headed to William & Mary to throw)and Junior, JOSH FISCHER seal the 1st and 2nd place spot while team mate and Senior, JEREMY NELSON(headed to Concord to play football)finished in the 5th spot in the Shot-Put competition on Saturday at the GROUP 1A TRACK & FIELD STATE MEET at EASTERN ROCKINGHAM HS.. Cook sealed the Championship on his final heave of the day at 55'-2 1/2".. Fischer, who fell and sprained his right ankle on Friday evening while competing in the Discus event fought through obvious pain all day and eventually notched the Runner-Up spot on his final toss of the day, 50'-11 3/4", surpassing Auburn's Shean Alfred who had been in the 2nd spot with his best heave of the day at 49'-11"... The 3rd "Blues Brother", Senior, Jeremy Nelson struggled to get anything going and failed to muster anything over 46'-5 3/4" and finished in the 5th spot respectively...

On Friday in the Discus competition the "BLUES BROTHERS", as did most of the top leaders really struggled to get anything going. Except for COOK, who set a NEW STATE MEET RECORD on his 1st throw of the finals event at 174'-11", which also netted the William & Mary commit the Championship in the event... Fischer, as previously mentioned fell during his spin on the 2nd throw of the day and severely sprained his ankle.. He continued to compete although it was apparent that he was in a lot of pain.. Fischer made the finals but had no power in the circle and was never really a threat in the competition and ultimately finished in the 8th spot with his best throw of the day coming in at only 122'-11', a tad over eighteen feet shy of his personal best... Senior Blue's thrower and Concord commit, Nelson could only put up a best heave of 119'-5" and failed to make the finals, thus finishing his day early... All in all it was a great meet, with great weather, great facilities and great competition... Every Student-Athlete that competed in this meet and at this level, regardless of where they finished should be extremely proud as should the Coaches', the parents, the schools and the communities from which they came.. This is a great honor, one that each and every individual competing worked endless hours to accomplish and as such should be applauded.. I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF ALL OUR ATHLETES, BLUES OR OTHERWISE AND I APPLAUD EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU, YOU ARE THE DEFINITION OF COMMITMENT!! To the Seniors, GODSPEED and BEST OF LUCK IN ALL YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS... To the Juniors and those below them, WE WILL SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR, AND THE NEXT YEAR, AND THE YEAR AFTER THAT!!! That being said, NOW, WHO'S READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?????

I just want to expound on what Coach just said (I'm assuming this is either a coach or parent). But this is how good the Cook kid from PM is: The powers that be had to move the discus from East Rock to Spotswood (about 5 miles up the road) because ER discus area wasn't large enough to hold him! True story!

Posted by one who almost got hit by one of his throws at SJHS Invitational (and I was outside the roped off area and INSIDE the sector!). Best wishes to him at William and Mary. Obviously a great athlete and a top-notch student!
