After today's ejection does that mean Howie will miss the game in Salem?
Yes. He is ineligible to play next week.
That's a huge loss. Arguably, it's Richlands best player. Congrats to Richlands for over coming four or five turnovers today. I didn't see the final stats, but I bet they likely not just outgained Stuart's Draft, but might have actually doubled them up in the yards category. Richlands played as bad as possible with probably 3x as many penalty yards and like 4 or maybe even 5 turnovers, and they still won the game.

I personally believe that their isn't a 3A team that could beat them, and only Salem and Dinwiddie could take them down in 4A. 5A and 6A is a different story. But this group from Appomattox is definitely the real deal.

No way to know. I like Blacksburg and Phoebus's chances in AAA. The Blacksburg team that lost to Abingdon and Giles is a totally different team. They are much improved.

In 4A, there are at least 6 teams that would handle them. For example, Lake Taylor. LT would handle them as would Lafayette.

After what I saw today, no way Lafayette would beat them. I was just bantering. But Blacksburg and Phoebus wouldn't cut it either. I'm not sure about LT, haven't seen them play. But, I've seen quite of few teams in 3A and 4A this year and none have been more impressive than Appomattox.

Losing Howie will be HUGE for Richlands. Fastest guy on the team that saved a couple tds last yr by running Appo runners down from behind.

Just by listening to radio as he was running in for the first TD he pointed to either the fans or to the defender. The second one he made a tackle and kind of ran up to the guy but didnt say anything. Just going by radio guys and twitter.

According to the radio broadcast, he "high stepped" into endzone on a TD pass. Then, was flagged for "taunting" a SD player he tackled.

Richlands is appealing. Also, according to the radio.

Dosnt sound like much to appeal have some sportsmanship and talk your trash with the scoreboard...if that's what actually happened then he deserved it...I still see appo winning this one 49-14.

Act like a thug and get what you deserve....maybe he will think twice before that again...when you make millions maybe you can do that....falls back on coaching!
Well you obviously don't know what you're talking about and just make assumptions. watched the kid all year and no where near close to ever pushing the line for ejection. from my understanding the officiating was extremely one sided and the stats showed it, but keep speaking garabage about a kid....

Appealing what? Is the VHSL going to go back and review the plays to see if the flags were merited?
VHSL Handbook Section 27-11-6

I bolded the key terms. Overturning will be unlikely, but possible.

(3) If, after review of the facts, including consultation with offi cials, the principal concludes that the appeal is warranted, he/she shall contact the principal(s) or designee(s) of the other schools involved and present his/her case. If, after review of the facts, all principals or designees, together with the commissioner of the association responsible for officiating that game, agree that the appeal had merit and that because of an error or misapplication of the rules by the officials the ejection was not warranted, it will be sustained and the player reinstated for the next contest. If any two of the three individuals hearing the appeal agree that the appeal has merit but the other does not, the appellant may request a review by the VHSL Executive Director or his designee, who may sustain or deny the appeal based upon review of the facts using all available and appropriate resources.

That's a little harsh isn't it for what he did ? I don't condone taunting, but to say he acted like a thug is a bit much and unfair ! He's really a good kid who let his emotions get the best of him today, no reason to say "he acted like a thug" !
He paid a high price for it.

The principal has to agree first and i remember the last time this happened (Johnson was ejected the game before playoffs by blowing kiss to visitors side) she didnt agree to appeal. See the same with this as well.

Ok, coming from a fan of Union, who played both Richlands and Appomattox this year, my heart is rooting for Coach Mance and the Blue Tornado.

Now, with that said, Appomattox is THE REAL DEAL! The 95, 98 Powell Valley teams may have held a candle to the Raiders. The speed they possess is overwhelm and will be difficult for Richlands to overcome.

Both Richlands and Union played as hard a schedule as they could but we are both geographically disadvantaged, without having to travel over three hours on a Friday night.

With all that said, I wish both teams luck next Saturday in Salem.

The first penalty was indeed for pointing at the defender who was chasing him as he scored a touchdown. The second one occurred on the sideline after a long play by Draft. I couldn't see what happened, but he was visibly upset at the call as were a number of Richlands fans who had a better vantage point than me.

The first call was legit and I would have flagged him too. At that point, Richlands' coaches needed to calm him down and let him know the consequences of a second violation. Again, I didn't see the second offense, but he should have been more careful regardless.

Don't worry.....they will be sending an appeal in to VHSL. Won't do much good. Appo wins either way. Let the kid play so Richlands won't make an excuse after the game.

Question on the interpretation of this rule regarding all principals: does that mean the appo principal and the richlands principal; the administration of Richlands; or SD principal and Richlands principal?

I don't care about an excuse, there is no excuse for that player coaches. Same thing to be said about one of Goochlands coaches today. One of the teachers at Goochland said he should have been ejected from the game right there and then.

I agree. If the kid wants to act like a fool out there, then he deals with the consequences. I just don't want to hear excuses IF Richlands were to lose to Appo.

Coach let his emotions get to him, he was upset a fumble didn't get called but didn't realize a flag for personal foul negated the call. I understood his frustration but yeah he needed to control himself a little better. It would have been a fumble.

No it's not, his coach had a chance to cool that boys heels off and did not so it's a very appropriate rule.
Yes it is, if he got ejected let that be the game not that game and the next. also these are kids, try to remember that. I also don't believe the second flag was merited, but I'm sure you were on the field and could hear everything.....

Review the rule in off-season. Not now when it affects your team.

Question on the interpretation of this rule regarding all principals: does that mean the appo principal and the richlands principal; the administration of Richlands; or SD principal and Richlands principal?
I'm pretty sure that Richlands' principal has to initiate the appeal by contacting SD's principal. If the SD principal is agreeable to overturning it then both principals contact the officiating association. I think it takes all 3 parties to agree to overturn. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

They timing of reviewing the rule has nothing to do with whether or not it is a good rule, just like not advancing a kick off out of the end zone or not advancing a blocked pat....I knew the rule before the game and then it was bad and now it's bad.
