CONFERENCE 3
Predicted order of finish:
Cosby,
James River,
Franklin County,
Manchester,
Clover Hill,
Thomas Dale
Player to watch -- Jordan Henry, Cosby: The senior averaged 9 points per game last year. He’s an experienced guard and talented shooter. Can he lead a young Cosby team in a conference open for the taking?
Storyline to follow -- Title is up for grabs: Last year’s regular season champion, Patrick Henry-Roanoke, now plays in Group 5A. So does Varina, last year’s Conference 3 tournament champion. So who is the favorite at the start of the 2015-16 season? Cosby is a good place to start. The Titans have a shooter in Henry and size in Walker Scaglione and Caden Najdawi (both 6-foot-6). Manchester has a new coach, Josh Karlson, and has lost a lot of its scorers from last year. Seniors Garrett Mikos and Marcus Ricks will blend with the young guys, like sophomore G Chance Robinson. James River also has a new head man, Dave Clinger, and has just one starter back, F Bryan Pinney (8 ppg). Clover Hill could start all juniors, including F Jeshon Jones and G Jaylen Dillard. The Cavaliers are experienced, but lack depth. After winning just one game last year, Dale returns all its starters, including PG Elijah Gregory (17 ppg) and G Carlton Williams (11 ppg).
