Rise Academy won the opening game of the Highland Springs Winter Showcase by defeating Dinwiddie 74-64. Senior Nathaniel Seaborn made six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 26 points to earn MVP honors. He also had four steals.
The game wasn't as close as the final score. The Guardians led 43-20 at halftime thanks to four 2nd quarter treys from Seaborn. A three by Devonte Atkins gave Rise Academy a 53-32 lead late in the 3rd quarter. He finished with 15 points and five assists. Senior point guard Trevonte Atkins added 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals while making three treys.
Dinwiddie made the final score respectable by outscoring Rise Academy 24-9 in the 4th quarter. Mykiel Johnson came of the bench to lead the Generals with 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Joshua Collins (13 points) and Shannon McDowell (10 points) also scored in double figures.
