Surprise, surprise, rain again this Friday.

I cant imagine anyone playing on a grass field on Friday or Saturday. I know its "football" and weather shouldn't matter, but it does. My statements are simply about economics. I am glad we are playing away this weekend. We spend about $50,000 a year on field maintenance (seeding, cutting, and painting....) and I believe if we were forced to play at home our field would be damaged beyond repair. Heck, it took one heck of a beating last weekend. Mother nature is kicking football's butt right now. Hope everybody gets through this weekend safely.
Can’t believe in class 2 Amelia’s field is too wet (understandably) and they reschedule all way out to Charlottesville at Monticello and their turf field in their Poquoson game . Poquoson now has a 3 hour drive and their field is turf! I think if the Amelia field is real bad and the Poquoson field is fine- turf and rain here it should be switched to Poquoson.

So Amelia should do something to benefit Poquoson which would hurt Amelia? I get the Richmond thing, and maybe they tried? But to go from an earned home playoff game to an away game where then Amelia has to travel is ludicrous.

I can imagine how upset you would be, and rightfully so, if your game next week were moved to Lake Taylor

Now that just sounds ridiculous to move it to Poquoson. They didn’t earn that right to host

Hey Gunz 41, Amelia is already going to travel an hour and a half to Charlotteville, home field is now gone. If a teams field is unplayable why should Poquoson be penalized by doubling their travel time? My thinking is if one teams field is unplayable and the opponents field is fine the game goes to that field if another field in the vicinity is not available. Smithfield has had this problem in the regular season and the field location was flipped. We have a turf field to avoid these problems which are now occurring all the time.

They have a playable field, Amelia does not and could not obtain a substitute field with the same travel distance from Poquoson. Charlottesville is in the wrong direction.

It’s what benefits the “home” team not the visiting team. Yeah, I’m sure something closer to Amelia would have been ideal the move to Monticello is what it is. Poquoson should have won a few more games so this conversation isn’t had

I just mapped it out and for Poquoson to travel to Monticello it’s only like 15 minutes more. 2 hours 5 min to Amelia 2 hours 17 min to Monticello so I’m not sure where the 3 hours is coming from

I worked in Richmond and know Friday evening traffic is bad both on 64/95 thru downtown Richmond and the alternative of 295 and exiting back to 64. Not good. But like you said it is what it is. Poquoson better leave early in any case! Your right, they didn’t win some games they needed to.

They could have waited to play Saturday and used Fluvanna

The home field advantage isnt gone completely though. They aren't playing at their opponents field, which is an advantage for the home team, and they also have less travel.

I'm glad you have a turf field, but use a different reason then, and I have no clue how far Lafayette and Lake Taylor are apart, just used them because of the discussion about the uncounted game/forfeited game, but ANY reason are you saying it would be fair to move a Lafayette game TO Lake Taylor?

Sounds like Poquoson has a better facility, but part of being the Home team is having decisions like this. While they may not be at home, just a shorter travel is worth it

Lafayette and LT are about an hour apart. It’s not the distance so much as the traffic on 64 and Thru the HRBT tunnel. In this area just looking on map quest is misleading. I would think the only reason for a field change would be field condition and that would be grass unless the lights are out and cannot be fixed timely. LT has a grass field. I know most of the Southside grass fields are in terrible shape right now.

I can’t believe the Hopewell game hasn’t been moved yet that field was trash last week!!!

I think you missed the point. You suggesting the game move to Poquoson because they have turf field, so for any reason, even highly unlikely, say a waterline broke at Lafayette, should the game be moved to your opponents field, or someplace more accommodating to Lafayette. Say you were to play Louisa, that is probably a good distance. If the game was set to be played at Lafayette and something happened, would you prefer to play it at Louisa (who certainly has a great home field advantage in the jungle, or someplace closer to Lafayette. I bet the way you were talking about the points being so close that you would be upset, with good reason, if the game was moved to the opponents, especially 3 hrs away. Not only are you as a team now not playing at your place, which you earned, and not only traveling which you worked for all year, you are allowing your opponent to then have home field advantage, not have to travel, and have the benefits of everything that comes along with being at home.

I'm just saying when you suggest something for someone else, you have to think about how you would feel if it were your team

2 words: Police Escort.

Perfect solution if Varina agrees
Varina is not an option. Their track is being worked on,so they’re turning everyone down, including Highland Springs, which is only 7 miles away. Maybe be Freeman. They got a new turf field this year too.
