SWVA 2A Boys Scores from 11/29/17 (including a shocker)

(1A) Eastside 73, Graham 50 (Benefit Game)
Marion 60, Floyd County 46 (Benefit Game)

The Eastside/Graham score is shocking to me. All the talk down this way has Graham pegged as the second best team in region D to Gate City. I know Graham is just days removed from the end of football season and Eastside is a very good 1A team and it's only a benefit game, but to me it's still a huge surprise that Eastside would win by so much.

I'm now a little bit more excited to see Eastside in the Arby's Classic this year than I was before yesterday.

Yep. 3 Virginia teams are in it this year. Eastside (1A), Gate City (2A) and Landstown (6A)

Only Virginia team since 2000 to win a game, not counting the loser's bracket, was Council in 2001. And, I almost don't count that one since it was the host school in Tennessee High that they beat. They had LA Dorsey down by double digits in the quarterfinals, but Dorsey came back and beat them.

The draw is done blindly at a local Arby's restaurant and is actually covered by the local media. A local team is drawn to face a non local team. This year Landstown has Tennessee High in round 1 and has the best shot of the 3 Virginia schools to advance in the winner's bracket. Gate City drew arguably the tournament favorite in North Mecklenburg, North Carolina in round 1. Eastside plays in one of the two play in games against Tabernacle Baptist, Bahamas to advance to the main draw against Columbia, Mississippi. The play in game is winnable for them, not sure about the Mississippi team though.

I saw that Graham/Eastside score as well - but figured it was a benefit game so maybe just both teams playing all their players/and not playing like it's a regular season, but more like a scrimmage.

But still........from what I've read on here about Graham.........still surprised by the margin.

Don't sleep on Eastside. Lawson at 6 feet 8, he is a handful and got better over the summer!

Several of Graham's starters didn't play because they haven't had enough practice in due to prolonged football season.bCoach C makes the players earn their starting jobs, if they started the previous season or not.
