SWVA teams had to deal with the hand Mother Nature dealt them again this week. Some games were played on Thursday, some as scheduled on Friday, a few on Saturday and Monday.
Richlands Wins the Back Yard Brawl 48-7 over Tazewell
John-Luke Asbury carried the Blue Tornado’s (6-1) over Tazewell in the Backyard Brawl with 203 yards and four touchdowns. The Blue Tornado’s held Tazewell Bulldogs scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.
Abingdon Falcons Continue Winning Over Lebanon 43-6
Falcon QB Jake Sturgill passed for 252 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Falcons over Lebanon on Friday night. Abingdon (6-0) got three receiving touchdowns from Jeff Wallace and one from Derrick Yates. Matthew Fulton rushed for 1 touchdown and 110 yards.
George Wythe Stops Northwood 41-6
Sophomore QB Deacon Beamer rushed for 110 yards on 23 carries for the Maroons (5-1) over the Northwood Panthers Friday night in the rain. The win marked the 19th straight time the Maroons have logged a win over the Panthers. Northwood moved to (5-2) with the loss
J. I. Burton Blanks Honaker 28-0
The Burton Raiders ran for a 28-0 win over the Honaker Tigers. Matthew Branham rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries, while Isaac Davis – 99 yards and Isaac Perrigan added 96 yards. The Tigers lost for the second time in a week after dropping a game Monday night to George Wythe.
