Boys:
(3A) Abingdon 78, Lee High 67
Undefeated Abingdon got a strong performance from Trent Cox in taking a 78-67 Mountain 7 District boys basketball win over the Lee High Generals on Friday night.
Cox finished with 25 points and nine rebounds as Abingdon improved to 4-0 after winning its league opener. Ean Bassham (19 points, eight rebounds) and Thomas Francisco (13 points) also played well for head coach Casey Johnson’s club.
Jacob Stewart poured in 22 points for Lee.
Richlands 87, (1A) Grundy 39
Taylor Horn led four Richlands scorers in double figures with 23 as the high-scoring Blue Tornado blew past Grundy.
Cade Simmons (18 points), Race Moir (15 points) and Caleb Horn (11 points) also starred for Richlands, which scored 61 first-half points.
Grundy received 13 points apiece from Kevin Dotson and Cade Looney.
Girls:
Richlands 62, (1A) Grundy 59
Ericah Burton had 20 points, four assists and became Richlands’ career leader in 3-pointers made as the Blue Tornado edged Grundy.
Bailey Hurst (10 points, nine rebounds), Lauren Earles (nine assists) and Haleigh Whited (15 points, nine rebounds) also keyed the win.
Maggie Deel’s 20 points led Grundy.
