The Game - Essex v Riverheads

Mine has done it numerous times in the last week. Ive had to go back and delete one of them each time. Have seen a lot of double posts from others as well. A glitch somewhere i guess

Is anyone beside me seeing their post very slow, and the thing post the same thing
2 times.

Hey Rod from Vapreps, you got any other problems like this, or am I the only one?

Mines been doing that for over a week now.

I am sure the Riverheads linebacker mentioned above is Mike Herndon who now plays for Pitt. I have never personally caught sight of him in one of their games, but I am told he plays some in specialized situations, like maybe a PAT.
Big Mike # 66 for Pitt was one of the hero's in their big win over # 2 Clemson on Saturday ! Big time player from a small 1A school . He made the key block to set up the win . We will be watching him play Sunday football in the future . Way to go Big Mike from Big Red Riverheads ! Go Big Red !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the great Rappahannock Times preview of the Essex at Riverheads battle-

Both coaches Fulks and Casto agree that the home advantage will be a significant plus for the home Gladiators- Casto said game will even feature fireworks! That's awesome! Eastern teams usually do not draw anywhere near the size of the western programs.

Essex Coach Fulks acknowledged that his team will be playing in an environment that they are not used to being in.

Both coaches were very respectful of the other's program and style. Preview went into good detail about styles of play etc.

Essex lost two way starter Tim Johnson (one of the best skill players for Essex) to a broken collar bone against William Campbell. He will be missed.

These are just my thoughts - Essex faces an uphill battle at Riverheads but they could pull it off if the momentum flows the way of the Trojans - an early lead would help to calm the crowd-

I hope that the officials will call a fair game and not determine the outcome - Hopefully, the referees will have neutral officials in the crew. Essex already faces a great team with a great, passionate following to compete against....

Should be an exciting one!

Hey guys, I know a little bit about Coach Casto, espically after their run in with Galax. But
Coach Fulks from Essex, I know very little other than he has got to be a very good guy,
and a tremendous Coach. Can somebody give me some biography on Coach Fulks.
Remember, I from out West, and I don't get the info on a lot of good things happening
In the East.

Coach Fulks is indeed a great guy. He and I have been close friends since the 10th grade at King William. Comes from a great family who is highly regarded in the KW community. Was an assistant on the 2000 KW state championship team then spent three years at King and Queen HS and was the head coach for the last two years there. From there he went to West Point High School and was able to help turn around that program ultimately winning a regional title there and losing to Altavista 14-6 in the state semis. He was at WP for 6 years and is now on his 6th season at Essex. His first season at Essex he went 4-7 as he took over a program that was down. His 2nd year there he turned things around and made it to the state championship game losing to Goochland. The next 2 years he also made it to the state title game losing to great Altavista teams. Last year ended with a semifinal loss to eventual champ Galax. This year he's taken a young team with only 8 seniors and played a rugged schedule and now has them playing their best football of the year. He goes above and beyond for the young men at Essex and they all greatly respect him. A true class act and Essex should be thankful that they have someone of his caliber. So Chilwar that's a little insight to a guy who has been one of my closest friends for about 23 years now.

Thanks kwhs, that was what I wanted. Sounds like you and Coach Fulks have a very good
Relationship. The man obviously has great football knowledge, and I would think a great
Personality to go with his knowledge of the game.
People like him are hard to find these days. Essex is in good hands apparently with Coach
Fulks and Staff. Very good post kwhs!

Hey guys, let me ask you another question. This one is about conditioning.....weight lifting,
Off season work outs. I have seen some high school kids that look like they are chiseled
Out of granite. Tell me about the programs at your schools, and what percentage of players
Participate. I.E. Strength and Conditioning for your football program.

Really depends on the school and how much it's enforced. At most the top schools in this area they start weight training in january and kids are expected to be there other than when the VHSL down time is in play. In the summer before regular practice begins in August some schools even offer a morning or evening session for the kids to help accomodate ones who may work. It's essential in todays days to have a good lifting program in place and enforce it. If it's not enforced then most kids won't do it but once the pads come on and the games begin they wish they had of. I remember reading last year how the Galax linemen came in and lifted every morning before school. That to me was impressive and obviously it made a difference as they hoisted the trophy

The refs call a fair game at Riverheads? That's a good joke! Lol

Just kidding guys

Maybe

Lol! I always thought Riverheads games were officiated by locals and past alumni. Always the rumor I heard ;)

I predict the team from south Augusta to roll in this one. This isn't the Essex squad of past years but this years red team is just as good as years past. Bad guys by 17
