Hopewell wins by a Td and takes #1, York eases past Bruton to #2, Phoebus wins big as expected to #3 and Lafayette plays their best overall game all season to hit #4.
Lafayette playing in town rival 8-1 Warhill simply steamrollered then from start to finish. Passing game was accurate and best all season and the defense dominated unlike any other game this season. Only downside was with temps in the 30’s unlike any other game there were more fumbles than customary. I know I was flat out cold! Different team in Norcom coming up with spread passing. Based on our game compared to the previous week Warhill/York game, York has issues stopping the run. That could prove fatal in the playoffs. Lafayette will play Saturday as Warhill gets the Friday night as a #3 seed in 4A versus Lafayette being a #4 seed in 3A. Why if the two teams play it’s not decided on head to head competition is unfathomable! Hope it’s in the afternoon as some reason remains. After the season ends in football the Bay Rivers District AD’s have some decision making to do in football with several programs on life support and adversing affecting other teams. Good luck to all teams now that the playoffs are here.

1. Hopewell vs. 8 Southampton
4. Lafayette vs. 5 I.C. Norcom
2. York vs. 7. Petersburg
3. Phoebus vs. 6. Tabb

Time to separate the men from the boys. Good luck to all.
With Tabb losing to Jamestown and giving up 42 points (total shocker) Phoebus should roll easy in this one. Tabb seems to have lost their Mojo! York will have their hands full with Petersburg, many of York’s wins have been nail biters and Lafayette will be very wary and aware for Norcoms pass attack, and Hopewell should have an easy time with Southampton- Poquoson earlier this year beat them easily. Good luck and stay healthy! Btw- found out M Gresham left Lafayette team due to severe shoulder separation in game # 7 against New Kent, done for the season and a Senior.

I believe Petersburg will upset York. The intriguing matchup will be the Greyhounds vs Rams. That's a 50-50 game, but the Rams will have home field advantage. To me this is the best game in the first round of 3A.
Interesting about Norcom is they have scored only 4 offensive Td’s in last three games. Interesting to see how the Lafayette defense attacks them.

BRD Hater!

I don’t think he’s a BRD hater just being a realist. Look at Petersburg’s losses they’ve run through a tough central district schedule and honestly are a better team than York. Norcom is also a team that could prove to be difficult for Lafayette, most 4/5 matches are toss ups.

Hmmm., a 5-5 team (Petersburg) that had not beaten one team with a winning record, gives up an average of 32 points a game, had three of their five wins against teams that ended 2-28 is better than a 10-0 team (york) at home. Interesting call.

Look at their losses, those 5 losses weren’t to slouch teams, York has an easy schedule they beat a Tabb team 10-7 that’s was honestly not good, played Gloucester 17-13, two 3 win teams, winless Bruton and a forfeit from Poquoson add in a sub- par New Kent win and you start to paint the picture of a pretty ok team. Everyone Petersburg loss to is in the Playoffs and in the top half of their bracket, they have D1 talent in both the QB and RB positions

Petersburg will give them a run but I see Hopewell blowing them out 64-20 and generally their poor defense against nearly all but winless Meadowbrook costing them. I see a high scoring game like 42–31. Should be good.

Let the games speak for themselves. This is america. lol I can have an opinion based off what i see. Petersburg is a good team that has played against arguably the toughest district in the state. They played Dinwiddle, Thomas Dale, Hopewell, Prince George, Matoaca and Norcom. To York's Credit they have played Lafayette and Warhill. York has struggled as of late and hasn't played the level of competition that Petersburg has played. I've seen tape on both team. Both teams are well coached. Petersburg has more athletes. I'm rooting for Phoebus and I'm actually glad that the Phantoms didn't draw Petersburg in the first round. Honestly, I hope York wins and Phoebus wins so they both can matchup the following week. An undefeated record means nothing in the playoffs, It's 0-0. Especially against a team with better athletes and played better quality competition. If York played better competition and was successful my opinion would change. BlueDevils55 agrees with me, and trust, nobody has a good chance to go through that district that Petersburg is in unblemished. Dinwiddle is 5-5 too. They are a good team in a tough district. They would beat York too in my opinion but thats why they play the games. Remember i said I believe Petersburg will beat York. So if that makes me a hater in your opinion Burgrams1, I will drink the haterade but if York loses, please let me know how i can share some with you buddy. I will make sure its ice cold or steaming hot for you.

One thing is for sure, York is no Hopewell. Hopewell could do that to alot of teams the first game of the year. My prediction 31 - 21 Petersburg. I think I need too add some more splenda to my haterade...lol

We will see in 6 days. The 31 may well be right but I see York scoring just a little more. It will be close and I admit I’m not sure what York team will show up, the 35 pointer against Warhill group or the squeaker edition from Tabb and New Kent. In the Bay Rivers the only all around solid team is Lafayette. That pretty much showed in last nights 42-0 drubbing of Warhill . Without some uncharacteristic fumbles it realistically would have 56-0.
I know our Norcom game will be challenging and will not even predict a score. I never do.

The real season starts now...can't wait for Phoebus vs Hopewell
Both teams will have to take care of business. My question is can Phoebus can contain Henderson? He will be the best player on the field with other athletes to compliment him. The last athlete Phoebus has seen like that was Dazz Newsome and you know what happened there. I want Phoebus to win but to do so they will need to score at least 30 points against Hopewell. Maybe the great Lafayette Rams can knock off Norcom and Hopewell. We shall see but whoever comes out of 3A will be my front runner for state.

Norcom will be a challenge but I favor the Rams. Lafayette will need to put up some points though...

I just watched that 105 yard INT return Dazz had in that game the other day...wow he was special. I've seen Henderson and he's amazing! My biggest question for Phoebus is how good are they because the PD was TERRIBLE this year.

Well, Phoebus has done a much better job this year of not playing down to the level of the competition. I think we had a slight relapse however, in the first half against Menchville on Thursday but they regrouped at the half and refocused to score 38 unanswered points. I'm sure they'll be prepared to play on Friday. I have Lafayette winning big over Norcom. This is a good Norcom team but not the same team as last year. I thought Norcom was peaking this time last year. I haven't seen that from them yet. The Rams are playing their best ball of the season at the right time. Hopewell will roll over Southampton by at least 50. York will beat Petersburg in a track meet.

Heritage-Lynchburg (3A) and E.C. Glass (4A) share the same field as well and they have to alternate days throughout playoffs as well. From what I understand, the HC of each school just works out an agreement as to which team gets to choose when they play. For example, Heritage gets choice in round 1 and they chose Friday so Glass chose Thursday. Should both teams advance to round 2 then Glass gets to choose which day they want to play. They will alternate with choosing as long as both teams are home the same week.

I hope every team in 3A stays healthy because there are some heavy hitters. I see Hopewell with an easy win, Phoebus also with an easy win, York finished 10-0; however they had serious help from a very poor officiating crew against Lafayette (162 yards in penalties of which numerous ones that stalled progressive drives, 2 TD’s called back, etc). Even several York parents said they didn’t earn that one. With that said I think they will squeak out of the first round to get thumped by Phoebus. I have Lafayette winning by a solid 3 score (35-14). Round 2 things get real! Hopewell and Lafayette should be an awesome game. So will the regional finals.

Also, I personally like the Saturday game for Lafayette, prepares for Saturday games to the end. I am hoping Lafayette is peaking now and plays to the level they are capable of.

Again, good luck to all, and prayers for every athletes safety

Injuries are always critical. Out of the Warhill game Lafayette looked 100% ok. Weather may be a factor too. Right now the forecast here is low 40’s and very windy, 10/20 mph. That will make passing a little more difficult.

At this Lafayette-Norcom game and Norcom is having their way 12-0 at the half. Hopewell might get that rematch I know they badly want.

Pretty ugly shuffle broke out right before half and a couple players got thrown out. I know nothing about neither teams so I can't tell who's done.

That Hopewell team is too focused on THIS year to be worried about what last years team did. THIS years Blue Devils have already have already beaten Norcom and by a considerable margin, Norcom put up their last 2 touchdowns on the backups after going down 40-13 at Halftime. Those kids don’t have anything to prove to anybody, they are ready to go get a State Championship against anyone that lines up across from them.

What happened in the regular season, at the beginning of the year is different then the playoffs. I favor Hopewell but I wouldn't be surprised if Norcom beat Hopewell. They can play with anybody and beat Hopewell last year facing the same scenario.

Just wanted to know if the Rams are 100% or not because they are losing to Norcom right now. There is always a reason why they lose against the team that beats them.

I was at the game and had to leave early due to my son getting cold, but LHS was playing undisciplined football. The officials were horrible, but equally horrible for both teams. Lafayette allowed themselves to get caught up in the smack talk and stopped playing their game. Also, 5 first half fumbles and an INT is enough to kill any team. Hopefully they pull it out, but it was sloppy ball

Norcom put it away 25-7. Lafayette only scored on an INT return.

BRD looking suspect to me. York struggled with a 5-5 team and both Warhill and Lafayette were dominated.

5 fumbles lost and three Ints will kill any team. No offensive TD’s in well over 12 years. Offensive schemes did not work as well against a quick Norcom defense but turnovers are a killer- three times in the red zone!! One of the Norcoms Int went for a TD and the last score was with a few minutes left after a failed 4 th down deep in Lafayette territory. The BRD was pretty week this year but today the turnovers told the story. Norcom commited an incredible amount of penalties. If they duplicate that against Hopewell, Hopewell will win big.

I didn't think winning by 15 points is struggling? York had very many stops against Petersburg... should be an interesting game of Phoebus vs York. Yorks offense coming into full swing, home feild advantage, and losing to phoebus in the same spot last year may play big into their favor....

Deja Vu is happening in the region 3A playoffs with Hopewell vs Norcom and Phoebus vs York, just like last year. This is absolutely awesome. Can’t wait to see and hear about both these games. I am predicting both to be very very closely contested... Good luck to all teams!

Somebody said that the BRD was suspect and I responded with that Gif because somebody has been saying the PD was weak all season but we still have 3 teams still playing.

PD was definitely weak this year still but by our standards. I believe it will be very competitive in the coming years especially with Elton Brown most likely becoming Heritage's head coach.
