New Kent (1-6) at Lafayette (7-0) . . . In the head-to-head series, Lafayette has won 12 in a row, including 62-0 a season ago. They're averaging over 58 points per game in the past four meetings against the Trojans and 46.5PPG this season against Bay Rivers District opponents. While the Lafayette offense engineered by QB Brendan McGinty (681Yds. 11-4TD/Int. ratio) gets most of the headlines, the Rams' defense was extremely stout in last week's 28-0 shutout of Smithfield. Matt Hummel and Tyler Jump were stout up front as they held the Packers to only 66 total yards, while on the back end defensive backs Brandon Villanueva-Pernell and Tyreke Graham combined for three interceptions. New Kent is a bit one-dimensional offensively, relying heavily on RB Trent Orie (721Yds. 7TD's) as their passing attack ranks near the bottom of the area statistically. That's not a recipe to beat a well-rounded Lafayette machine that's looking to enter the postseason undefeated.

VHSL-Reference Says: Lafayette 56-0
Coach Young Says: Lafayette 50-0

Menchville (1-7) at Hampton (5-3) . . .
The Crabbers have absolutely dominated the Monarchs over the years, pitching 10 shutouts out of 15 matchups since 1999. Their closest encounter over that stretch was a 28-12 Hampton win back in 2001. Since scoring 51 points over the first two weeks when they started 1-1, Menchville has put up just 28 points in the last six games, all losses. Their best weapon right now is tight end Elijah Murphy, who scored a touchdown on a 48-yard reception in last week's 38-7 loss to Denbigh. Hampton has way more firepower at its disposal with junior dual-threat quarterback Jovonn 'Bubba' Quillen (27 total TD's) and senior wideout Tyquon Wilkins (29Rec. 476Yds. 7TD's) keying their attack. Also, the Hampton defense, which gave up 24.2PPG going into October, has a chance to record their third shutout this month. Linebacker Ricky Hatcher, safety Cal Kee and crew should sniff out the run from the get-go and cruise.

Matt Says: Hampton 45-10
VHSL-Reference Says: Hampton 45-6
Coach Young Says: Hampton 38-0
