Coach Ed Young – 87-26 (77%); 19-5 last week
VHSL-Reference.com Simulator – 79-29 (73.1%); 16-8 last week
Thursday Night Action (9/29/16):
Woodside (3-2) at Kecoughtan (1-4) . . . Eight of the past ten head-to-head meetings have gone in favor of Woodside, including a 38-36 thriller a year ago. The Wolverines have played pretty well for the most part on defense since its 42-17 loss in Canton, Ohio to GlenOak back in the opener. They’ve held three of four opponents since that point to ten points or fewer with only Hampton breaking that barrier in a 34-23 win over Woodside.
Kecoughtan has had some defensive problems in giving up 30 points or more in four of their five games, the latest occurring in a 48-7 loss to Phoebus last week. Some of it though has been due to youth on offense, using two sophomore QB’s in Jonathan Melvin and John Tucker Jr. Melvin totaled 257 yards and 3TD’s in their 42-30 win over Denbigh, but outside of that game and Keith Grandy Jr. starring on the outside at receiver, they’ve had a hard time sustaining drives this year.
Woodside counters with several more experienced weapons on offense with Army commit Tyhier Tyler leading the way at quarterback and a deep stable of backs that include Tamir Walker, Demetri Banks, D’onte Chesson, D’Angelo Chesson and Kendall Bell. Banks totaled 140 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown in last week’s 17-7 win over Warwick. Delaware State commit Kamari Jackson and Dominique Sumter are solid hitters on the defensive side as well.
