These ten teams have the most playoff wins without a state title... since 1970.

20-14 Sherando
17-13 Liberty-Bealeton
14-10 Hanover
10-17 Fauquier
9-11 Loudoun Valley
9-12 Chancellor
9-14 Deep Creek
9-14 Huguenot
8-12 King George
8-16 John Bassett
8-16 William Fleming

If you had to see one win it all in 2016, who would it be?

Fleming, no question for me on this one. They've been close a couple of times in the past, especially in '03 when the Colonels let a few golden opportunities slip through their fingers against Powhatan.

Sentimental favorite would be the top two. Sherando and LB have been strong programs for a lone time. They've had some very good teams over the years. State Champion caliber teams. But as I've said often, it's frequently not how good you are but how good is the other guy. Unfortunately, these quality squads have run into some buzz saws. Like Sherando was the wrong place at the wrong time against the Generals. Probably the best 4A in the last decade. But those 2013 Warriors likely would have won against most of the last 10 Champs. those are the breaks.

But truly outstanding programs. GL to both this year.

I agree with everything you said here in regards to Sherando. They are definitely one of those programs not just in 4A but statewide that have been close and seem to be in the mix but have yet to reach that pinnacle. I'd throw Hanover in there as well, not just because I cover the Richmond Region but they went to the state semifinals several years; 2007, 2009, 2011-2012 and had to play teams like South and Stone Bridge who are in much larger classes. That 2009 state semifinal against Phoebus was a close one that got away from them.

I think Sherando would have to be the frontrunner from this group as the team with the best chance to win it all.

To be clear, Fleming wasn't a prediction; they're just the one I'd like to see win it from the list provided.

Sherando because I know of three times they have played and did not win states, 2 against Amherst and 1 against Dinwiddiw

I'd most like to see Sherando and William Fleming win it. I think that Sherando, Liberty-Bealeton, and Hanover are the most likely to win it in the next few years. I could see most of them winning it some day except Bassett, King George, and Fauquier.

Yep, they've lost to Amherst twice, Dinwiddie once, and Salem once. I don't think this upcoming season will be their year, but I'd love to be wrong about that!

if Sherando numbers stay out of 5A, 2018-19 years are going to maybe have the potential to be the best teams ever out of Stephens City., based on talent alone.they still have to put the work in. It's not a proud thing to be the best to never, but we have beat some really good teams along the way. Maybe some day.

They should stay out of 5A since yet another HS is going to be built in Frederick County soon.
