So here it is... the week of Varina & Highland Springs...

What is your prediction? We have talked about it long enough. While the coaches might respect one another, while the players might be friends with one another, come Saturday these two teams will want nothing but to beat the snot out of the other.

You will have to wait till Thursday for my prediction in the Richmond Football Forecast but I am curious to hear yours.

I believe this game could go either way, Varina has a lot of weapons and they are a quick-strike offense I don't see any team scoring 42 points, Varina has as much speed as highland springs if not faster. Both teams have a lot of talent this will be a close game. If Varina were to win this game I wouldn't
call it an upset. The team that wins this game it will be won from the sidelines.

If it is won on the sidelines then one has to believe Highland Springs wins. Coach Johnson is one of the best, if not the best at adjustments during a game be it quarter, half or in the moment. His resume speaks for itself.

Maybe not the greatest of upsets if Varina wins but an upset nonetheless. Anytime a team on a 38-game win streak goes down, it should be considered an upset.

If Manchester could score 40 on you at Varina why wouldn't you think HS could do it at a neutral site. Manchester has as good if not better defense than Varina and we threw 26 straight on them at Manchester. You will see HS when this game in the trenches on both sides. We have better DB's than anything Varina has seen all year and Dunn has not seen the kind of pressure that he will see Saturday. I guarantee suirad and Gilliam will be on his heels all game long. If you Johnson is just going to sit back and let Dunn throw bombs all game you are sadly mistaken

You can win 38 games in a row you can win 48 games in a row but eventually it's going to come to an end and when that happens and the team is better than you it's not a
upset. And as far as the winner of this game will come from the sideline I never said who would win.. I said the winner of this game is going to come from the sideline do I have to spell it out

That game went in to double overtime a lot of those points were scored in double overtime

I think HS will control the LOS, eat up a lot of clock. HS might score a few quick ones too.
Varina will struggle against that Springer Defensea

...and this is a key in it being a HS victory!
Those on the sideline will get it done once again. What is it now 5 in a row over Varina? This would be #6. Sideline!

If H/s lose it’s not going to matter and end the winning strict, I truly believe they’re still going to win the region and the state championship , because you have to beat them twice. Colonial forge has a solid defense and they couldn’t stop hs, varina defense isn’t better then forge, now varina can score and put up points but I think there defense is going to kill them at the end

Manchester scores 45 points! 31 BEFORE OT! Varina had to hit a FG to send it to OT with :03 left, after blowing a 2 TD lead. Manchester scores in BOTH OTs with ease! Varina got stuffed the 2nd OT running behind their UVA commit on 4th down the 2nd OT. That’s 31 points in regulation!!! HSHS held Manchester to 16,including ZERO in the second half. That Varina “quick strike” offense hasn’t faced a good team since Manchester, and no D like HSHS’s!

It went to double overtime which meant no more than 2 TD's(14 points) could have been scored, at Varina to add. That same Manchester team didn't score a single point against our defense second half. O Smith is better than Varina and they only manage to score 6 points total. And if it wasn't for us taking out some key staters on offense a very good C Forge team wouldn't have scored more than 7. Do you notice a pattern here. Like I said before both teams have Elite offenses. But I believe HS has a better defense and coaching and that will be the key. Remember defense wins championships.

That was the first game of the season the teams get better as they go you can't go by what another team scored on another team some teams match up better than other teams. The thread was to give your prediction for the upcoming games I gave my prediction that the game could go either way but I think the game will be won by the sidelines. That was my prediction but I had to hear about the resume of Coach Johnson and what adjustments he makes doing the game we already know that. I know coach Johnson very well and a lot of the coaching staff great group of guys
But the fans you guys are cocky and you brag too much. I think it was back in 2006 when Varina lost it's opening game to Garfield of northern Virginia and had to play highland springs in the regular season and the regional finals. In the regional finals highland springs was up by 6 points and had the ball with 15 seconds on the clock. It was fourth down and inches and highland springs went for it and didn't get it.. if they had gotten the first down they would have won the regional, with 15 seconds on the clock Varina through a pass into the end zone for a touchdown with 15 seconds on the clock and went on to play chantilli in the state semifinals. Coach Burton made a bad decision in that game. So games are won or lost by decisions made on the sideline. Neither teen will score over 42 points

I agree with some of what you are saying and HS is capable of losing. Varina is a good team and no team is perfect, so any team can be beat. However this is a rivalry and I have been stating facts to back up my prediction. Now you are right that was the first game of season and I'm sure you guys have improved since then but it is hard to gauge because you haven't played a quality opponent since Manchester. That ls why I referenced C Forge and O Smith. Steel sharpens Steel. Honestly I believe it will be a good game and I wouldn't mind it being an all east end regional final in the playoffs. I wish y'all would have beat Manchester because I believe that is the only way that will happen.

HSHS(-6.5) is my prediction. But, If Paige and Reid get into open field it may get interesting. I just hope for a clean, flag free game where the kids can show the city what they're made of.

What's the word on the JV game this week?

Does anyone know if tickets will be sold online? Thanks in advance!
I went to the hs vs Manchester game and they had tickets online, so if u dont buy early it’s gonna be a issue I can see them selling out it’s a Saturday game ppl are off work and it’s more ppl ate going to attend and it’s last game of regular season so hopefully they’ll have online tickets

I get in free being an employee of the county but my dad needs one.

The JV game will be at Varina Thursday night. They already played once this year! HSHS’s JV won 46-12.

This game will be decided in the trenches and the coaches abilities to adapt to changes. Can Varina drive the field against HSHS’s Defense. Can HSHS’s young skill players finally handle the big game on offense? Will HSHS’s depth be the difference like it’s been all season? Can HSHS get pressure on Varina’s QB enough to disrupt the passing game?

HS 27
Varina 14

I think it’s gonna be a close game , I just can’t see varina running the ball on hs, so they’ll have to pass but Varina eventually get tired and hs defense are good so it’s gonna be difficult, special teams and turnovers will play a key

Can’t see Varina having s lot of success in the passing game either with those DBs,but we’ll see! Mr Green(LSU commit)and Laney(ECU commit) will be roaming out there! They will HAVE to find a way to run the ball. Varina has a good, big OLine.

Varina is healthy. I know 2 years ago they were banged up when they played HS. I think this will be the first time they’ll have all of their contributors. Last year they lost their QB midway through the season. He led the Richmond area in proficiency for a while but got kicked off the team. I don’t think he would’ve made a difference last year but who knows. I definitely think Bobby Dunn will be a difference maker for Varina this year at QB. 2 years ago Varina turned the ball over at least 5 times (28-7 HS; QB had 3 of those) and last year Varina didn’t have any passing threats (33-12 HS; don’t know how many times Varina turned it over because I didn’t go). Isaiah Paige is the best player HS will see on their schedule so far. My main concern with Varina is can they play all 48 minutes?? I know most of them kids personally, they’re going to leave it all out there. Not only do they want to beat their “big brother” counterparts, they believe they can win it all. It’ll be a fun matchup Saturday. I just pray for full health for both teams going forward! It’s going to be an exciting ending to the season!
